I'm looking at adding another internal hard drive....when i built this computer i built it with a 256gb or so SSD (which I use essentially for OS services only) and a 1TB internal HD for all other things

Yep. That is the way to go.

did not realize how fast a 1TB would fill up

Yep, its not shtt anymore. 500GB used to hold my whole Steam library in 2012, that ended much more so a year later.

What do you guys recommend for an additional hard drive? I don't want to replace, but plan on adding an additional.

This is what I do, just because we have so many ports.

I devide as follow:

1. Steam gets the largest and fastest drive
2. Blizzard, U-Play, Origin get the other drive
3. Extra drive for downloads and misc items
4. Extra drive dedicated for VMs. I love learning with VMs.
5. The rest of my archives go on my NAS. (FreeNAS is awesome)

So, I don't have a problem just buying smaller fast drives. Right now the cheapest SSDs are around 0.31 per GB. I recommend looking into a 1TB SSD for the gaming drive and put the games you more often use on that one then put games you use less on the old drive.

That would be my choice, just for speed. But if you want to keep say, your WHOLE Steam library on one drive maybe a 4TB HDD @ 7200RPM 128mb cache is your go to drive.

It all depends if you care about faster load times for some of your more often played games.

Doom and BF1 get placed on a 250Gb partition on my 960 Evo. Slashes load times down to nil. Boot drive is the other 250gb, and I have a 2TB 7200 RPM drive for other storage.

Just have a 1tb SSD that I store all my stuff on. I don't have all my games downloaded though, just the ones I know I'm going to play often

How are hard drive prices right now? Are you all seeing them inflated due to mining as well?

Not sure how much effect mining is having on HD prices, but having recently shopped around for both SSD and HDD for a build, I would say they are pretty good. Can get a good quality HDD for $50-$100 depending on how much storage you want. For example, a WD caviar blue 1 TB was around $50 last time I looked.

What's this im reading about storage size limitations of 2TB?

Does windows 10 only support drives up to 2TB each?

SSD prices have been inflated for the past 4-5 months due to a shortage at one of the manufacturers, so they had to bump up the MSRPs. I bought my 1tb Samsung 850 pro for $175ish prior to it, and now I don't see anyone selling it lower then like $250-275

Yep, we have a flash shortage. Reason RAM is retarded high again.

Between mining and flash shortages, its the worst time to build a PC.

1TB 7200 drives were $50 8 years ago before the flooding in Thailand, so I wouldn't necessarily call that a good price.

So UPS delivered my replacement from Corsair, and I had to pay them $7 at the door because Corsair underpaid the shipping cost? First time I've ever had to do that and no clue if intentional by Corsair or they screwed up.

Not worth contacting them over but thought it was weird. They paid for the shipping at 3lbs but it was 6lbs and I had to pay the difference at my door.

I'm seeing GTX 1060s over 300, WDD 1 TB drives over 70, 16 GB DDR4 2133 RAM over $120, etc...

When will this shite end?

What do you consider a decent price? I just got a 1080 founders edition from Bestbuy for $540. Given the way the market is right now, I'd say that's an ok price.

RAM prices are ridiculous too. I was in micro center in Chicago yesterday and they were selling DDR4 3000 MHz @32 GB for $400.

I've seen the 1080 FE for as low as 480, but for 540 given the mining shitstorm, that is not bad IMO.

WDD black 1tb drives are at an all-time low right now and ram has always been around $100-120 for 16gb

I bought my 16 GB kit of HyperX DDR4 for $58 in February 2016. RAM has gone up significantly.

Same with the 1 TB WDD Blue drive. I got it for $45 in February last year. Frys currently has it for $80, 49.99 with the promo codes.

1080's are horrible for mining that's why they haven't and won't jump up in price.
