I'm planning on upgrading to skylake-x but I'm not sure if my power supply is going to be sufficient. My titan xps top out at 600w overclocked and the 7900x is extremely power hungry I imagine when overclocked. Can I get by on a 1000w power supply?

I am too. Really hate upgrading but don't like this 6850K. It clocks like shtt.

I'm going with the 7900X as well. Still pissed I must pay $1K for a fckking CPU just to get something which was offered to us @ $450 bucks previously.

Do you water cool? With my D5, fans and OC I need a something a little higher than 1000W. So in 2013 purchased a 1200i from Corsair. The thing is a POS honestly. I've RMA'd once and had trouble with terrible coil whine. So plan on upgrading to an EVGA, but we have an issue. Can't do so right now because all 1200W EVGAs are out of stock every where until their new PSUs are launched this Fall.

You might not NEED 1200W, 1000W is fine but some calculators push me right above 1000W. So rather play just spend the extra money.

Just curious, why the 7900X over Threadripper?

What do you need that cpu for? I didn't think you did any rendering or editing at all?

The PCIe lanes which Intel is deciding to no longer put in their reasonable CPUs. Plus, the e-peen...

And maybe, just maybe, it'll become more common for games to take advantage of 8+ threads in some meaningful way.

He will have a new processor way before that happens.

Doesn't Threadripper have 64 of them? If your set on Intel, I get it, but I'd at least wait for the benchmarks before making a call.

I'm not going AMD. Nothing to do with the CPU, but the boards and chipset. In the past they have always been a step down in quality. CPUs for me are 2-3yrs before upgrading. So really need a chipset with all the features.

I'll go AMD for graphics but not CPU for a main.

Yeah I do enjoy PhysX and Gameworks but it is in less games now.

Portal 2 and HL2 have special AA settings just for ATi/AMD cards. Used to play Portal 2 at times just on my lesser system with a 7950 and then 290 back in those days.

So im not preferenced towards any brand really, just the better experience.
