Can be expensive. Although I upgraded my 7 year old gaming PC for roughly $500 and I can run things like BF3 on ultra with a ton of room to spare. I suspect this will last me another 7-10 years faithfully. Granted I tend to lag behind in the games I play, but I love it and it's cheaper that way.
ETA: It's cheaper than getting addicted to car upgrades.

Holy shite. I built mine in early January and have spent more than $500 in less than 7 months. I like buying things.

I started with a "budget build" of 600 bucks last July. Since then I've sunk 1900 bucks into my set-up

Well to be fair, I was on a pretty strict budget and probably shouldn't have even spent that much. But I also got everything except the 3570k on sale (Mobo came with free Ram and I got like $50 off the 7850 ATI GPU)
With this new job I'm starting I will have a bunch of extra $$$ I will be able to blow on things like a CPU cooler, an SSD, etc...
I actually wouldn't mind getting a second monitor for shits and giggles, but who knows.

I'm selling off my main build right now to fund some upgrades to my jeep and a trip cross country for a little while.
I may sell my backup build too so I can get a laptop to play on while I'm traveling

I wouldn't worry about overclocks yet. Just enjoy your rig first and get a feel for things before you go down that road. I have not overclocked my cpu still just because I haven't needed to and haven't had the time.

Yeah I won't be overclocking for a while, especially since it's my first build. It seems like my build is good enough to not need to for a while anyway.

I would stay away from that chip for gaming. The x100 series line has poor gaming performance and many i3 will outperform it
