So big question, I'm planning to build a 1440p pc early to mid summer. It would be easier on finances if I bought some of the parts intermittently till then such as i5 6600k, EVO SSD (I'm thinking 500gb) a 1TB HDD, 16gb of RAM. Would I be okay getting those between now and the summer as I see deals or do you think they'll be a good price drop between now and then?
I won't get motherboard, gpu (planning on a Polaris), free sync monitor, (those 2 will be most of the money anyway) case and probably power supply till summer whenever the mid or high end Polaris releases.
Thanks for advice.

CPU price drops are rare and minor. I think you're safe getting basically everything incrementally except the GPU.

Good deal thanks. May wait for ssd too, I'm thinking those prices may drop by summer but if I see a EVO on sale I'll get it.
I'm trading in my wii u and games to Amazon for $285 that should offset things.
Power
I bought this. Since I'm not interested in sli or crossfire I don't see why I need 650 or 750 watt. I played around with pc part picker. With i5 6600k, a cooler, two fans and R9 390x (getting Polaris which will most likely require less watts but added this to see) I was still under 500.

Windows 10 giving anyone else with parked cores being "stuck"? My 6C12T is limited to 2 cores at the moment.
Has anyone else encountered? This was an issue in Windows 7 for most, but was fixed by the launch of Windows 8.

I wonder if this estimate from Amazon is legit? Went ahead and preordered that LG 4K monitor and it gave me a pretty specific estimate...

Could be, but I've ordered things that weren't in stock before, and Amazon gave me a similar window of time. When it didn't arrive, Amazon simply revised the window of time to a later date, and after that passed, Amazon just canceled the order and said "we don't know when we're going to get it, if ever." This was for a sheet music book though, rather than not-yet-released electronics.
They did something similar when I tried to order a Kindle Kids edition in November. Obviously they were having stock issues during the sale. Thought I'd ordered mine before the rush, but it didn't arrive a week after its estimated date, so I canceled it myself.

Yeah, only reason it may be legit is because last years releases were Late April and May for the new monitors. Worst case early summer.

I love how Amazon handles pre-orders. If it doesn't ship in the initial window they will send you an email stating the revised later window and ask if you would like a refund or keep the order.

Has anyone had a CPU die on them before? This might be my first. I thought it was a core parking issue with Windows 10 but as I dead fresh OS install and flashed new MOBO BIOS, but nothing helped. My logical cores are not even showing up now.
This sucks.. CPU/MOBO upgrades are boring.

Damn that sucks. Yeah I was going to say that I checked last night and all of my cores were working.
Only time I've had a CPU die on me was from me physically damaging one. Accidentally broke off a pin from an Athlon XP.
You tried lowering clocks and/or raising voltage to see if it's degradation?

One of my contractors walked into a repossessed "grow house" on Long Island this morning. I will upload some photos later to share. These dudes had their basement tricked out with irrigation, air filtration, etc. Pretty crazy. We looked it up and the people got arrested a year or so back. There are still plant stems, pots, and a bag of old mary jane there, though.

The bag was old stems and shite. Nothing that could be used for anything. No buds or anything. Plus, the shite has been sitting in the open for a year drying out and rotting. It wouldn't be good for anything.

Does it go bad? This isn't my area.

Mine either but I would imagine if there was anything worth a crap the Feds would have taken it when they busted the people a year ago.

It looks pretty well ransacked. If that black bag is that bag you're talking about, looks pretty gross. I imagine it would get moldy and/or break down like any plant matter would, stored in the open.

Yea that's the bag and that's why I said it wasn't any good.

Never had that happen.
My old PC had a Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz with HT and I only had the stock cooler on that with Artic Silver. Constantly overheated and reached 100 C a few times, but never died on me.
