Yeah, another 4GB HBM card from AMD would be disappointing if it's the flagship. GDDR5X seems like a decent stop gap to get the needed capacity. From what I read it effectively doubles DDR5 bandwidth.
the OCN thread seems to have turned into a discussion of the money pit that is water-cooled GPUs.

I think I may just buy a 2nd Fury X when I get my 4K monitor in.
Or maybe even a nano/reg Fury.
Not sure yet.

IDK how you wont hit the cap on modern titles. Nearly every AAA game besides the Witcher 3 touched my VRAM cap of 6GB @ 1440.
EDT: Maybe because AMD cards don't run the full suite of nVidia Game Works?

You know just as much as I do... fckking blocks cost just as much as a 3rd GPU.
I'm mostly tired of purchasing blocks for my cards. Couldn't imagine buying 2x$300 rads again. These AquaComputers should last a few years.

I still have those alphacools you gave me back in 2013. No plans to replace them, or my gentle typhoons until they die. They've been spinning pretty much 24/7 for the past 2 and a half years. MTBF is 100,000 hours on those I believe.

I have yet to hit the cap at 1440 144.

That is crazy.
Are all settings turned to 11?
Gentle Typhoons should have a religious following.

Of course.
Some games it just doesn't matter even at 4K max settings such as Dying Light.
But yeah, besides that, Batman AK, Blops 3, BF4, AC Syndicate, Just Cause 3, no issues at all with 4GB VRam max settings 1440/144. Keep in mind that HBM1 can actually run over 6GB Vram just fine in most games.

Batman: AK, Rise of the Tomb Raider and recently FC: Primal.
BF4, AC:Syn, JC3 is a no.
I think its because you don't have access to the full suite of GameWorks. Good or bad, that is probably the thing.

So gddr5 is better than hbm I thought they were comparable?
Being that I'm waiting for the new amd I'll be rather disappointed if it is lackluster.
Oh I also watched this video about how nvidia basically sabatoges it's own older models through over use of game works features. The guy made a very convincing argument how nvidia practices planned obsolescence:

Fckk no.
HBM1 is Mike Vick 7 compared to GDDR5 Kordell Stewart 10.
In certain cases in can offer better results if you need more resources than 4GB of VRAM. Once HBM2 finds it way to the flag ship cards, this will be the issue with HBM1.

Okay just checking. Why did you put a warning before linking WCC I've been going there nearly every day to check the news are they not reliable?

They have history of reporting fabricated images, screenshots and "speculation" as leaked rumors/news.

Does anyone else here use Chromebooks?
Got me a new Dell Chromebook 13" w/ an Broadwell i3/4GB for just $400 bucks. I'm coming from a 2012 MacBook Pro with a Sandy Bridge i5/8GB. We have an older Samsung Chromebook from 2014 in the house and i've fell in love with it.
You can do practically everything you would on a normal PC/Mac with Chrome extensions. If there is a program which I want to use but can't on my Chromebook, i'll just remote in to one of my PCs with the program using Google's Chrome Remote Desktop.

I have been seriously considering getting a cheap Chromebook for precisely this reason. I work from home, and would love to just work from bed sometimes but still have the power of my desktop (the RAM and CPU particularly). I don't do intensive work in any one program but often have a shitload of documents, PDFs, and browser tabs open, which immediately eats into the 8GB on my laptop, plus it's using a first-gen mobile i7.
I remote in to my desktop using that laptop, but the scaling makes work difficult, trying to view a 1440P workspace on a 900p screen.

So this VR Desktop Mode is pretty damn cool
Use your full desktop in VR and multiple monitors too.
Also can create custom environments and look at the one at 1:45...a home theatre environment...that looks so cool.
Can also play all of your games.
About the 5:45 mark shows the Steam Workshop integration and some early community creations...awesome stuff.

Is there any benefit putting OS on ssd by itself separate from steam library? Or should I just get like a 500gb ssd and 1TB hd?
