Newegg has a 256 gig Samsung for $92.99. I just did a quick look. There may be better deals out there.

You can get a Crucial (which is just behind Samsung) 480GB for $130 now. I have one alongside a 256GB Samsung and notice zero difference in the two.

Potentially down the line. I need to wait on the GPU. The SSD I need to get though.

Posted this in another thread that's now buried, but I had to breakdown my gaming computer and am selling parts (a la carte) if anyone is looking to pick something up. All in good shape with fair but not strenuous use:

CPU: i7 4820k
GPU: XFX R7950
MoBo: ASUS P9x79
Monitor: 24" ASUS VE245H
RAM: G Skill DDR3 (240 Pin); 2GB (x8) = 16GB
PSU: Corsair CX750M (might already be sold)

You can negotiate prices with me right here or just ignore me.

So is the Samsung 850 Evo worth $20 more than the Crucial BX200?

No.

The only SSD i've ever really noticed a difference in a "real world scenario" was 4yrs ago with a spare drive OCZ Agility 4 256GB.

I have an SSD from about every brand out there. Corsair, Kingston, Samsung, Crucial, OCZ, ADATA and probably a few other ones. They all perform the same for the most part, some of the higher end and more recent ones cache data better so they are quicker in responsiveness but pretty much stops there. I've had a problem with an old Samsung 840 when writing, but that was fixed with firmware.

All those synthetic benchmark results showing the variances between drives rarely showed much value in real life applications.

I remember the days of trying to fit Windows and programs on a 64GB SSD, and some software spilling over to a HDD because it took up too much space. Paid nearly $200 for that SSD.

I ask mostly because while user reviews are fine, formal reviews are a little harsh on that model from crucial.

I believe that is the same Crucial SSD in my PS4. Have no issues with it but also a totally different use and OS which uses the drive a little differently.

As cheap as SSDs are now, why are you only getting a 240GB?

Make sure to update the firmware on the Samsung 840 EVO before installing anything on it. The drive writes at a crawl over time if not.

Sorry I have the MX100 not the BX200. Idk the difference without Googleing.

Edt: Yes I opened the PS4 just to see. She got kind of excited being touched, hasn't seen much action lately.

BX is downgraded from mx by the way. It's still an ssd so I don't know how much it matters.

I have a Intel 330 Series 240GB 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive (SSD), I noticed it was slowing down, when I installed Win10 and reformatted it was back up to speed. I think ALL drives get bogged down over time, I am a firm believer of fresh formats and installs every 8-12 months.

Do you have Trim enabled? That sure sounds like a trim issue. SSD performance will degrade over time if trim is not enabled.
