More iPad repair drama.

I thought I was repairing a third-gen iPad. Apparently my parents were wrong and it's an iPad 2. The digitizer I ordered is for an iPad 3. The ribbon cables fit but the screen behavior is all fricked up. At least digitizers are cheap. Apple doesn't label their products by generation. Just a model number (A1396) in tiny print on the back that I had to look up.

Also, I severed the power button cable as well, so that's another thing to order. Based on the iFixit instructions, that should be a barrel of fun of replace.

All for this for an iPad 2.

Never again.

Hmm let's see what happens. Is it an issue running 2 monitors on a PC but playing on 1?

I do it all the time with no issue. I have occasionally encountered a weird conflict, but very very rarely. I'm currently playing AC Syndicate, and my cursor migrates over to the other monitor (and it shouldn't), so sometimes when I click it'll minimize the game. Apparently disabling overlays like Steam and MS Afterburner resolves it.

The worst issue I ever encountered regarding dual monitors was related to a bug with very specific requirements to reproduce. AMD's fault, of course. If running Hawaii GPUs in crossfire with more than one monitor attached, you could not use Vsync in any game without severe audio distortion. Had to unplug my second monitor or disable crossfire if I wanted to use vsync. The bug was too specific for AMD to give a shite about. It may even be more specific than that (e.g., only if connected via DVI, only if the monitors were different resolutions, only in 1440P, etc.) but I didn't test anything beyond the Crossfire/Dual Monitors.

It's not too bad so far. I've barely played past the prologue though. Ubisoft is learning.

It's decent, but there's a vram bottleneck with textures. It's only apparent when you're done with the prologue and the world opens up. We've reached a point where 6GB-8GB vram is a must for multi-GPU configurations and 1440P+. Maybe HBM2 will fix that.

So even a 970 4gb isn't good enough? That's what I'm looking at

You'll have trouble running ultra textures on a lot of newer open-world games at 1440P with a 4GB card, even if you bought three of them. But overall it's a good card. If you wait a little while, there might be another $300-400 card in six months that uses HBM2 and mops the floor with the 970 and 980.

That's what will be hard to resist. I want to let the first gen Pascals ride. I'll probably get a new gpu when the 1100s roll out. I'm hoping dx12 will help the 970s.

I rarely get ultra textures now. I feel like most games have a big performance gap between high and ultra.

Big performance gap and little discernible difference. These days I'm becoming more bothered by aliasing, which is why I'm so eager to jump to 4K. But I'm not going to do it until I have GPUs that I know for sure will handle it at reasonably high settings and get 60fps or more.

Although, I played Witcher 3 briefly with maxed settings, 4K DSR, and a cap of 30fps. It looked pretty nice. Ultimately I couldn't handle the 30fps longterm.

I agree about aliasing. How is aliasing on 1440?

Better than 1080P, unless you're coming from a 20-21" 1080P monitor, in which case the pixel density is about the same as 27" 1440P. It was a nice change from my 27" 1080P monitor. But eventually it spoils you.

Went to install Windows 10 this morning and didn't have enough room on my 120gb SSD. I was able to move some pictures and what not but now I'm thinking I may just get a new SSD and do a fresh install on it. Any recommendations?

You buy anything yet?

The Samsung SSD drives always seem to be highly rated and the prices are good.

I have a 120 GB Samsung now. I can't remember what model but I don't care about benchmark speeds for it so I never bought the pro version or anything.
