So apparently you can't just upgrade to windows 10, you have to agree to it then they randomly tell you when you can?

Just your CPU and motherboard.
so GPU, Power Supply, and my aftermarket Corsair H50 water cooler will still be ok?

I'd be surprised if the entire Windows 10 image wasn't already quietly downloaded by microsoft and already on your hard drive somewhere.
Microsoft is in full-blown DGAF mode about how intrusive they are in promoting Windows 10.
I read some headlines the other day that Skylake doesn't "support" Windows 7 or 8.1. I'm sure there's way less to the story than the headlines are making it out to be, but I haven't had time to read.

Is anyone surprised Tiger Direct is going out of business? They were such a horrible company.

Yep. RAM too, unless you go with a Skylake build and a board that requires DDR4.
I'm not familiar with the installation procedure for the H50, but most CPU coolers are designed to be universal -- some coolers ship with an array of mounting brackets for different sockets.

Didn't know they were, but no, can't say I'm surprised.

Ok cool. I guess now I need to get into the market for a good CPU and motherboard that is compatible. I also need to go through my boxes and find my other adapters for the water cooler.
Edit: Are there normally any sort of "tax season" sales for PC parts?

They closed the ebay store this morning and there is hardly anything left on their site. A bunch of junk mostly. They were bought out by a liquidation company that has been selling through the inventory. There were some good deals on the ebay store but they all sold out fast this week.
Their customer service sucked and they fricked me on a 560Ti years ago so frick them. Glad to see them go.

In November 2015, PCM Inc. acquired Systemax's "North American Technology Group", including TigerDirect, for $14 million. The division had, by late-2015, incurred operating losses of $68 million (in contrast to its other businesses, which had an operating profit). The acquisition was closed on December 1, 2015 with the sale of its business-to-business customer list and intellectual property. The transfer of Systemax's web assets is to occur by February 15, 2016. The company also announced the shutdown of its remaining distribution center and retail stores.[9][10] On December 24, 2015, the TigerDirect site silently changed its return policy to indicate that all sales were final.[11]

I honestly forgot they even existed.

They are all about Windows 10 now but at least it's a free upgrade. There would be an outrage if it wasn't.

Replacing my mom's ipad (3rd gen) screen.... Never again.
There's only one way to open the iPad, and that's by heating the glue around the perimeter of the digitizer and lifting it up. Which would be ok, if the screen weren't shattered. Instead, it was an hour of picking out shards of glass and slowly working a razor blade around it. Ended up severing the wifi antenna so I have to order one of those.

Yep, it sucks. The SO dropped and cracked the screen on my iPad 2nd gen years ago. Tried changing it back in 2012 but didn't complete it. I've already had all the tools including a heat gun from modding cases.
It was just messy and the replacement glue never sat right. Ever since then I'll fix almost anything but a fckking tablet screen.

So currently I'm running in SLI with a pair of G1 gaming 970s. With my tax return i plan to move over to a single G1 gaming 980TI and sell the 970s.
Along with the upgrade im wanting to ditch my 1080p 144hz 1ms asus monitor to move to the new Acer predator. Which is IPS/2k/gyscn/144hz/4ms/27".
Does anyone currently own this monitor that can give me their take? $750 for a monitor is quite excessive which is why im wanting more opinions.
Im hoping i can flip my 970s for a nice return to help buy this monitor.

Don't buy a 980 Ti now, wait 2-3 months for Pascal and hopefully GP100.
That monitor seems retarded expensive for what is offered.

I was considering this as well! Thing is for now on I plan to only TI versions of their latest cards. From what iv read and seen they are pretty much the only ones worth buying IF you can afford them. I was going to go to the current TI and when the next TI hits i could sell my 9XXTI if i need more power. That way i keep some money in cards and also stay current gen.
Pascal should be pretty great I wish they would release more specs about it and the newer cards it would really help make my mind up to wait or not.

Will a single 980ti outperform sli 970's?

Yes. You have double the CUDA cores on 1 card plus not all games utilize SLi. Seems like a lot of games in 2015 launched without SLi support for months.

Thanks, I was looking at doing something similar last year and though I was told that one 980 would not out perform two 970' or the difference would be negligible.

This isn't totally true. It really only lined up great last gen, but previous gens that wasn't the case. No Ti versions of flag ship Furmi and Kepler. I had my TITANs for almost a year until 780 Tis released. nVidia might have planned the released of the 980 Ti because it launched months after GM200 TITAN X but wouldn't count on it.
