Thanks, I was looking at doing something similar last year and though I was told that one 980 would not out perform two 970' or the difference would be negligible.
Sorry its not double the cores, was thinking it had 1344 but thats the 670. The 970 has something like 1664. So the 980 Ti isn't double the cores but still will probably out perform since SLi doesn't scale all well in most titles.

Im in need of more Vram. Also i want to drop down to one card instead of 2 because i want to go to a smaller more quite case. Less cards less heat.

Yeah, but remember games that require more VRAM usually require more power to push the game.
What are you playing which requires so much VRAM? Mods in a Bethesda game?

It seems the 970 SLI to single 980 Ti will be a lateral move at best, but at least allows for smaller form factor.
Agreed that the vram is not an issue unless dealing with very, very poor optimization (being overzealous on the texture mod resolution in bethesda games is an example of poor optimization). But VRAM becomes more problematic in SLI in some games, since you've got 80-90% more GPU processing speed (ideally) but still the same 4GB of VRAM, at least until game developers and AMD/NVIDIA start getting serious about the advantages of DX12. I encounter this bottleneck with my 980s from time to time, where I've got 4GB of VRAM saturated and 70% GPU usage on both cards, frame drops with no change in GPU usage. It's a problem that's solved by switching to any single card, not just a 980 Ti.
Personally, I'd wait for next gen. 980 Ti is last year.

So what is around the corner? Maybe I will lose my mind and decide to upgrade.

Pascal and Polaris, 16nm and 14nm respectively. HBM2.

Maxwell was great, but dat HBM2 on Pascal...
That will bring us into 4K.

I'll sell you one on the cheap in a few months.

I'm just covering both angles so I'll be right

PC Division specs
Anyone in the beta? I'm interested in knowing how it will run.

Alternatively, what if it's important to consider both simultaneously? Upgrading one may reveal or create significant inadequacy in the other.

That's why I tested it the other day

I'm not running 1440p on a 770. It might be fine on older titles but fallout had to be run on low to maintain 30fps.
