Wish I could tell you what's wrong, but I just started noticing this exact issue on my computer in the past few days. And I have 16GB of RAM. Normally, my memory is chewed up by Chrome tabs, dozens of them. But in the past few days I would launch GTA V and see I'm at like 14GB RAM usage, so I close all my browser windows and other stuff that might be running, but still stay around 10GB, which is absurd. Likewise, Task Manager shows far less usage than the total amount being used. Quick solution is to log out or reboot. But I've been swamped by a project at work to do any other investigating, not even a Google search. Project is due today, so I guess I'll try figure out what's causing the leak unless you find it first.

Trying to remember if it correlates with a Windows update or something. I don't know the exact day I started noticing it, but I always see my physical and virtual memory use displayed on my keyboard's LCD.

fricking annoying, about to just upgrade to 16GB and call it a day.

Not really seeing issues with RAM or VRAM. The game does run like shtt though, no matter what settings you play on.

I get a ton of cutting ????? If that is the correct verbiage, a lot of models do not render fully.

Next time you play for awhile, check and see how much ram it's using, mine is always around 3700MB, but seems like that's pretty normal.

I found that putting the overall quality on medium and textures on ultra with everything on has it not only run its best but also look it's best. 3100 render distance 64 fov but that's dependant on GPU too. Found that from reddit.

Guys, I don't post personal stuff too much, and I surely don't do OT prayer threads, but my dad found out yesterday he possibly has lung cancer and a heart aneurysm. They are bringing in the lung specialist today to do a biopsy and also bringing in a heart doc to discuss options and possible heart surgery. On top of all of that he is in the hospital being treated for bronchitis and pneumonia. Keep him in your thoughts please. It's going to be a rough few days while we figure this out and I am afraid our journey is just beginning.

Thanks

I'm sick of hearing about your dual 980s.

So.....

I'm joining the Elite Master Race.

Give me the parts for a nice dual 980 rig. $2,500 ballpark.

Well I finally bought my new laptop. I have officially gone back to Windows on all of my devices (except for my iPhone 6 Plus) and I couldn't be happier especially with Windows 10 on the horizon. I have my desktop for gaming and if I ever need to do any kind of heavy video editing, I could do it on my desktop as well.

Anyway, I bought the Surface Pro 3 i5 128 GB model with 4 GB of RAM since it will be mainly used for work, travel and media use. For what I need it for I thought getting the 8 GB RAM or a core i7 would be a bit overkill and not worth paying $400 more for.

In the future if I ever wanted something that I can play games on, I'll just drop 2 grand on something but now that I have my desktop I don't see that as need now or in the future.

But, I'd advise waiting until June or July, because we may see Skylake and AMD's new Fiji cards with HBM. If they end up at the rumored $700 price point, this build can be adjusted to accommodate a pair of them (or the 390s) under $2500. If you want to venture into 4K gaming, two 980s can't always do it without some major sacrifices elsewhere. Often, the memory bandwidth is the problem. In GTA V, I can do 4K DSR with highest texture settings if I turn a couple of things off of Ultra (and no MSAA). But when I start driving, I dip down to 45-50 fps with both cards at about 80-85% GPU usage and vram at around 3500-3800MB, so I'm assuming memory bandwidth is the bottleneck. When driving, new textures can't replace old textures fast enough.

Thanks. I read earlier about the new AMD cards dropping soon, so I will probably wait a bit to join the Elite Master Race.

Thanks, everyone.

Got some good news today and some bad but still better than we were thinking it would be news.

The good news is that his heart all checked out fine. We cleared that hurdle for now.

The other news is that, no matter if the lump on his lung is cancer or not, they will still probably have to remove the lung due to its location. It's at the very top and is putting a strain on his lung causing him to cough and causing fluid to build up in his lung which is what was giving him the pneumonia-like symptoms. As bad as that is, it looks like he will be in the clear once they remove that lung as there were no other spots or signs of cancer on the rest of his lungs.

Now we are just waiting on the lung doctor to schedule the biopsy procedure where they will go in through his throat to take a sample and to get more info on exactly how high up the mass is and to confirm if it is cancer.

What do you know about this bait and switch with Kingston SSDs? I seen some 240GB HDS by them that are about $30 cheaper than Samsung 850 EVOs but the recent reviews are awful saying speed is slower.

Also, you know anything about BenQ monitors? I saw some nice 24" 60hz ones on sale for $135

The V300 originally had synchronous NAND, but they later changed it to asynchronous NAND (cheaper to make) but continued selling it under the same model number. The technical differences are a little over my head, but the extent of what I know is that SSDs rely on voltage and gates as signals to write to memory, and synchronous NAND writes to memory by moving data at the top and bottom of a signal wave, with one end indicating that data is ready on the other end, and back and forth. Asynchronous uses a single signal pulse at a time. What this seems to translate to is more than double theoretical performance on synchronous. The actual differences on a standard SATA SSD are not that large because of the controller's limitations and the fact that in the real world NAND is not going to be signaled at perfect regular intervals since the user's input will be irregular.

Not that I myself have tested the different versions of the Kingston drive, but it seems like the user reviews are bitching for two reasons:
1) Kingston changed the NAND type without informing consumers, after tech review sites had done their tests and reviews.
2) Benchmarks are lower than the synchronous versions.

In practice, I really don't think it makes a real-world performance difference. The bulk of observable SSD performance comes from its near-instant access times rather than transfer speeds. If it's the cheapest 240-250GB SSD, it's right where it needs to be in the budget category. Perhaps a more legit reason not to buy it would be on principle, since Kingston silently made the switch after review sites had published benchmark data based on the synchronous NAND version. Whether it was planned or incidental, shite like that never goes over well when consumers find out.

Never owned one, but I'm sure someone here has. I imagine they are as good as other monitors with the same specs, because BenQ is the parent company of AU Optronics, which is easily the largest LCD panel manufacturer in the world. They make panels for pretty much everyone. I think even Samsung and LG source some of their panels from AU Optronics.
