Old Republic might be going free

Looking at Free...
I havn't played this game, mostly because my computer can't run it, but does this make it worth playing for more people? The game itself is already down to about $20 on Amazon.

I'd play it if it went F2P. I think DC Universe Online has the best F2P model.

Aren't learning what ? They are still making money.
And I don't play WoW, but the whole WoW clone thing is stupid. I guess every FPS ever made is just a Wolfenstein 3D clone ?

They messed up making the non-class content the same for all paths, if your game doesn't have deep time consuming leveling then you can't have a canned leveling path.

Who is still making money? Elder Scrolls hasn't made any yet, and I would like to see Old Republic's numbers after years of development potentially going free to play in under 6 months. If ES uses the same mechanics, they too will be free to play in 6 months. This was STAR WARS and couldn't make the money they were hoping.
How much money do you think they left off the table at a hundred thousand subscribers not paying 15 bucks a month for 1 year?

Its not stupid when its true. The MMO space on the big budget stuff has been doing the same thing since 2004 because of Warcraft. Plenty of smaller MMOs have challenged that, but they don't get much attention, and the biggest thing an MMO needs is population to make it look alive, so they die off.
ESO has a property strong enough to try something different. It apparently won't, and will tank in numbers just like this is looking to be doing.

The last successful mmo that wasn't wow was star wars galaxies before soe killed it with changing it into a different game. That game was great, player ran everything with viable non combat roles.
