Just another little thing i've discovered is that there are actual seasons in the game and they are reflected in the ambient weather. i'm in Hearthfire right now which is part of fall
here are the others according to wiki
A year is a measure of time which lasts 360 days. There are 12 months in a year:
=== Morning Star ===
Morning Star is the first of the 12 seasons in the Elder Scrolls universe. It is considered to be a Winter month. (by our definition).
=== Sun's Dawn ===
Sun's Dawn is the second month of the year. It is traditionally a Spring month (by our definition).
=== First Seed ===
First Seed is the third month of the year. It is a Spring month.
=== Rain's Hand ===
Rain's Hand is the fourth month of the year. It is the final month of Real Life Spring.
=== Second Seed ===
Second Seed is the fifth month in the Elder Scrolls year. It is also the first month of what we would define as Summer.
=== Mid Year ===
Mid Year is the sixth month of the year. As the name suggests, it occurs halfway through the year. It is also the second month of Summer.
=== Sun's Height ===
Sun's Height is the seventh month of the Elder Scrolls calendar. It is the final month of Summer.
=== Last Seed ===
Last Seed is the eight month of the Elder Scrolls calendar. It is the first month of Fall (Autumn).
=== Hearthfire ===
Hearthfire is the ninth month of the Elder Scrolls calendar. It is the second month of Fall (Autumn).
=== Frostfall ===
Frostfall is the tenth month of the Elder Scrolls calendar. It is the third and final month of Fall (Autumn).
=== Sun's Dusk ===
Sun's Dusk is the eleventh month of the Elder Scrolls calendar. It is the first month of Winter.
=== Evening Star ===
Evening Star is the final month of the Elder Scrolls calendar. It is the second month of Winter.

The weather/environment don't change with seasons, though. Whiterun in August looks just like Whiterun in January. The "calendar" is just a good way to keep track of how long you have until ore replenishes, enemies respawn at certain places, etc.

So I went to Markarth for the first time this weekend. I was a little underpowered for the tombs (17 i think). each battle with a draugr was difficult but managed to kite my way around and finally defeat the waves of draugrs at the end only to emerge into a city that wants to kill me. should i just go back and pay the bounty or sit in jail?
BTW the city is gorgeous, but i'm a sucker for any scenery that involves stone, water and overgrown plants.
when do i get access to that mine?

That quest was so screwed up. I paid the bounty and was told I had done a great service to the city and still random guards would try and arrest me
I think it is finally straightened out. It is a beautiful city and the house you buy there is the best of all the houses IMO

I think so because it seems like I lost quite a bit of stolen loot when I paid my bounty

Yeah, I was kind of hoping for seasonal differences since Oblivion didn't have them. It would be cool to have the different climates represented (For example, Whiterun probably has a continental climate so its plains would be quite warm during the summer and there would be little snow on the mountain peaks), but every type of terrain/weather imaginable are pretty much in this game at some place or other.
I was really surprised to see the swamplands in the Hjaalmarch/Morthal region and the hot springs south of Windhelm. The developers nailed Scandinavia, I think. It's easy to imagine you're strolling across Norway or even Finland.
ETA: Also, I agree that Markarth is fricking awesome. Probably some of the best designing Bethesda has ever done. I love the increased attention to the Dwemer in the game, because their ruins are really fun to explore even with falmer shooting their ugly crooked arrows at you.
ETA2: As far as the mine, you have to progress in the "Forsworn Conspiracy" questline to gain access . Let's just say most people don't go willingly.

I've noticed the months counting by, but never knew it affected the actual weather.
I miss Skyrim. Been on the road visiting friends/family for the past two weeks and won't be home till after the new year. Miss playing.

Did anybody else kill Paarthurnax after the main questline to open up the Blades stuff without going throught the greybeards quests?
I didn't know that they would tell you where the words of power are and now they hate me cause I killed a dragon.

How did you screw it up the first time? Too many magic skills? I did the same thing with my mage.
Was trying to play hybrid two hander/mage..
Went:
2hand
Heavy Armor
Conjure
Restoration
Because I thought block needed a shield. And I wasn't sure of the power of enchant/blacksmith (i always dislike crafting...sooo boring).
But I NEED block and either enchant or BS, but I don't really have the points.
I found out that I:
1) Never use Restoration really, but I spent at least 8 perks in it. Or I force myself to use it, but don't need it. Conjure+2hand is amazing enough on it's own.
2) That block perks work for 2hand, so they are necessary for this semi-tank.
3) Conjure+Enchant is just natural
4) Restoration blows, they totally messed that up. Having to "Hold" everything down, it SUCKS. I thought I would be able to buff myself and move on, so I thought IT was the natural choice. If I need any secondary mage school it was alteration for sure.
So I've gimped myself, but I've done a lot of things this game trying to stay good, that I don't want to play through again, and I don't want to console edit it. ( I destroyed the dark brotherhood, chose good sides of daedric quests, etc.)
So I want to go all evil, killing folks, etc. and play a nightblade, but I'm really sad that my current build is so gimped, because it IS a lot of fun, but I rely heavily on followers.
Once I finish the main quest, then if there is no official respec option, I'll go the console route and respec into 2hand/conjure/Heavy/Block/Alter/Enchant That should be super strong.

Which armor is better, Deidric or Dragon? I see you can make Deidric earlier than dragon, but it looks like it is more powerful
