I'm certainly not an expert, but I would think Kennen and Gnar would both be good counters. Both have the mobility to get in on Sol and once you can get close to him he isn't nearly as threatening. In that CLG game, Kennan was banned and CLG took Gnar/ASol while Rox held the counterpick for Smeb.

Smeb took Poppy who can theoretically dive, but her W does nothing to a Sol. Rox had Ez who seems solid against ASol (mobility to dodge the balls. That level one may have just tilted Rox a bit though. They had what seems like one of the worst mods to play against Sol (Malz). No mobility and no huge burst to lay into him, so that didn't help.

Rox banned Olaf, Syndra, Nami. Given how much of a pocket pick Sol is for Huhi, seems odd.

Malz is the hardest non assassin Sol counter.

In lane or in general? Seems like in teamfights Malzahn would have a hard time getting close enough to Sol to do anything, though I haven't seen much Sol to be honest.
Pray and Gorilla getting dumpstered certainly didn't set Kuro up at all.

Apdo made a post about Koreans being one-trick Sol players and how boosted they were just because of the champion.
How much of that is an overpowered champ and how much of it is Koreans not knowing how to handle Sol? I don't know.
But if Apdo says that the champion is able to give free LP to bad players, it might just be the champ.
It should be noted that this was before the nerfs.

Malz has a ranged silence, a ranged suppress ultimate and can push the lane.

I totally see Malz pushing Sol around in the lane, but it just seems like Malz won't be able to get into the Sol in a team fight (assuming the Sol is properly positioned).

I haven't really kept up with the game for the past 3-4 months, does TSM or a NA team have a legit shot at winning worlds this year?

Sorry for the off topic question, I would like to see them win. If they have a chance I may see if I can catch some of their games.

Probably not to win, but a semis appaearance would be particularly surprising.

TSM drew into just about the hardest group possible as a #1 seed (China #2, Kora #3, EU #3). With that said, they were still highly predicted to make it into quarters. From there it just depends on the draw.

Rox have been pretty heavy favorites with EDG and SKT in the next tier. After that you probably have RNG and TSM.

an NA kid just won Starcraft, which has been won by a Korean 16 years in a row, this is the year that NA finally catches up with the world in eSports

I saw that headline. It haven't looked into the story. Is this kid the real deal or was he just really hot this tournament.

Everytime I try to be a teamplayer and play support, top and usually mid always wind up going 1/10 with like 3 cs per minute.

This is why I don't play support

Looks like he's been rolling for a while and was actually favored in the Finals. He's also first in circuit points now, so this kid's no fluke.

You can safely take EDG out of the SKT/ROX group. They have serious holes that weren't exposed in China. Mouse is baaaaaaaaaad. RNG started to revert back to their brainless aggression in their loss to SSG so their old habits are dying hard. There's not a single undefeated team after week 1. ROX's early game is awful. SKT made the mistake of giving Huhi Sol. SSG looks better with CoreJJ at support. At this point I think it's a 5 team race. SKT I would figure to be the favorites, but their jungle play is a massive weakness.

SKT/ROX/TSM/SSG/RNG

It's a tossup at this point. Week 2 adaptations are going to tell the story as strategy and comps start getting tested. Teams who rely on a certain comp or style are going to start getting left behind.

Absolutely. Anything short of Semis would be a disappointment with the way they've shown they can play. Easily the best chance an NA team has ever had of winning the whole thing. I wouldn't say they're favored, but it's not a pipe dream like it used to be.

I was mainly just conveying the pre-tournament predictions. EDG certainly looks more at the level of a TSM now (on the other hand RNG has played really well).

I'm not overreacting to week 1 again though. They still have Clearlove, Deft, and Meiko though so they could turn it around.

Rox gave Huhi Sol. Supposedly a bunch of players, including Smeb are sick. That could maybe explain his struggles?

NA's success this year really hasn't been off of cheese, which is a good sign. Rox has actually been a really cheese team, so if they run out of cheese what will happen?

I think Rox and SKT are pretty even. Rox seem like shite early, SKT is probably going to have to rely on Bengi, which is questionable. I think TSM/RNG are still a step behind. DL and Biofrost have been shite. You mentioned RNG's regression.

EDG is a huge ? at the moment.

Yeah I mixed up the Korean losses

There's not much conclusion to draw from week 1 outside of the fact that it's pretty much a 5 team race so far. We'll probably end up removing Samsung as I really don't see them having the horses to run with the other 4. Crown was their shining jewel and Bjergsen absolutely dumpstered him. We'll know a lot more once strategies start being re-used/adapted to and we'll see the teams that are deeper strategically and champion pool-wise. That's where I think TSM's strength is going to show. As far as I know, Sven hasn't even played Rek'Sai once and it was easily his most dominant champion during the Summer Split. DL hasn't played Lucian or Ezreal. They haven't used the Zilean/Karma/Sivir comp. Hauntzer hasn't played Poppy and it looks like she's making a comeback. It wouldn't surprise me at all if TSM's comps are completely different next week.

With CLG's victory over ROX, they now have the unofficial world championship belt. The fact that TWO Brazilian teams have held the belt at one point is hilarious.

This is basically what Weldon has been saying. Korean kids don't have some magic gene that makes them good.
They have terrific internet infrastructure, a really strong development program, a culture that doesn't discourage video games, and they work really hard for a long time to get good.

That's it. Want to be good? Get good. Work unbelievably hard for a whole year... TSM... and you can compete with these guys. I'm just really interested to see if Weldon was right.
That draft versus RNG was so bad when they didn't snowball. But they showed that they can definitely outclass the 3rd place Korean team. So maybe they do have a shot.

My post week 1, championship percentages:

Ahq 3%
ANX 2%
C9 5%
Clg 5%
EDG 2%
FW 5%
G2 .5%
H2k .5%
Imay 5%
INTZ 1%
RNG 10%
ROX 15%
SKT 20%
SPY 0%
SSG 10%
TSM 18%

This was done very scientifically as in I went down the latest and assigned numbers. Then made sure it added up to 100.
