I assume when you can unlock Master locksmith at level 18? I think that's what it required but not positive.
Yeah you can unlock master locks once you reach rank 3 in the locksmith perk after reaching level 18 to be able to unlock the master lock to get the Cryolater OR you can watch this Kotaku video to get it without needing to be rank 18 by using Dogmeat which is a frickton easier.

I just awoke from involuntary cryosleep and watched my wife get shot 10 feet from me and some post apocalyptic marauder take my infant son. Better stuff my pockets with ashtrays and coffee mugs.
I'm looking forward to taking their heads off with a teddy bear.

So you don't have to use the dog?

If you want it before reaching level 18 and unlocking the locksmith rank 3, you need Dogmeat to get it. Only way I've seen so far.

Why wouldn't you? Any game that gives me a dog is in my GOTY consideration. I almost lost the poor guy last night. I told him to stay so he wouldn't get hurt during a gunfight and then I forgot where I left him. I was panicking until I finally stumbled across him.

eh, I've already moved on to another companion that isn't codsworth. Don't want to spoil anything but this guy uses guns and knows how to sneak when I do, which is very good for my style of play.

I thought I lost Piper last night while clearing some random building near diamond city because I told her to check something out and then I left once I killed everything and didn't see her again for hours until I reached Four leaf fishpacking plant. Just traded her out for dog meat to get the Cryolater. Now I'm going back to get Piper, she'll be my bottom bitch until I find me a redhead then it's full blown gingerfever.

Can the dog die? I'm always trying to protect it by being super cautious in fights and I frequently take damage from the sides because my main focus is always killing the enemies the dog is engaged with.
It's been a pet owner simulation for me so far.

Because if anything happens to that dog I will delete the game immediately.

I thought BioShock Infinite was bad on my "check everything for loot" OCD, this game is going to kill me.
I'm right there with you. I can't leave an area without fully checking everywhere for containers to check.

I picked up everything not nailed down from the vault all the way to that first gas station outside sanctuary before I finally became overweight and had to start making hard choices on what to drop

I think they confirmed that the dog can't die.

Work, kids, fantasy football, the Pelicans. All the normal stuff that populates my thoughts has been replaced with Fallout 4....
I'm hopeless.

I watched mine get bludgeoned by a super mutant for 5 minutes last night. He did not die. A stimpak and he was ready to play fetch.

Still worries me. Let it be known, if anyone in the wasteland fricks with my dog, I will kill them

Anyone playing on a higher end pc?
Posted on 11/11/15 at 1:34 pm to Mr Gardoki
Yes, I've grown quite attached to dogmeat too.
He sucks if you want to be stealthy, but for taking down roaming packs of feral ghouls he's amazing.
