Goddammit. I’ve been trying to resist getting pulled back in but I may after all.
Too many good reviews.
I took a really long break from Destiny 2 and wasn't getting this. But I played this weekend and realized that I kinda missed it, so I pulled the trigger.
Not saying you should, because I've only played the first mission, but I was fun again. We'll see how long that lasts for me.

For anyone on the fence, this expansion is really solid. Completing the campaign on legendary cuts out a good bit of gear grind. Crafting is a bit of a grind, but you can get what you want. I still think drops are better for god rolls.
The tough part of coming back after an extended time away centers on mods. Without them, you'll struggle in end game content. If you don't run master content though, this won't matter to you.
I'm having a blast with it so far.

I haven't been home to finish the campaign. Might be able to play tonight some though

Can't agree more. I was on the fence and am glad I bought it. I have just finished the campaign and haven't done much else. Its almost overwhelming.

Doing all the campaign on regular got me to 1500 pretty easy. However, I did do the last mission on legendary and it was a grind. For me, legendary is a good challenge, but I would rather complete the campaign, then come back and do legendary after seeing the mechanics.

I don't know if I like the artifacts new unlock system. I'd have access to the Volatile Rounds already if they hadn't bumped up the last column requirements.

Hit pinnacle cap on all three characters. Sitting at +16. Probably going to play more Elden Ring. I would like to be +21 ahead of VotD Master mode to knock out that seal this season.

What is your grind like for the first one (to get to pinnacle)? Is there a particular order you went in? What did you do while you were still underpowered to do Legendary Nightfalls? Just skip them? Just curious as I find its taking me a while to get to 1550 (im at 1518 + 9, 1527 total).

I have two methods I work - gap creation and gap closure. If all gear is close in power level, I want to create gaps. If I have a few pieces higher (3-5 power levels), I want to close that gap.
Under the powerful cap, I want to make sure I have all powerful and pinnacle sources available. In Witch Queen, that looks like: weekly story mission (completion and 100k), Wellspring (completion and master), Psi Ops (completions and champion kills), Preservation, Vox Obscura, VotD, Grasp of Avarice, Fynch reputation, Alters of Refection and ritual activities (Strike completions, Nightfall completions, Nightfall 100k, Crucible completions, Crucible Glory rounds, Trials wins and rounds, Dares of Eternity completions and 250k, and Tower bounties). And prime engrams...so there's a ton.
If you want to great a gap, run a few pinnacles, then close the gaps with powerfuls. Repeat the process until all powerful and pinnacle activities are complete.
I also save all season pass and vendor reward gear until I need them...meaning once I have all powerful and pinnacle activities complete and want to increase my base power level by closing a specific gap, then I pull because after the powerful cap, they drop at base power level.
It's so easy to hit the pinnacle cap now. I didn't touch my third character for two weeks and hit pinnacle cap the same week as the other two. Honestly, you could play what you want. As long as you just play and run pinnacles after your character hits 1550 base power level, you'll hit the pinnacle cap by season's end.
...hope that makes sense

It does and thanks for answering so detailed.
I've never implored a strategy, just played what I felt like playing that night. I don't usually have time to finish all of what you listed but try get 75-80% of it.
What I did last time was get to pinnacle cap and quit. However, that was because Witch Queen was so far out.

I've gotten quite efficient since Bungie settled on the seasonal model. Besides, I like to hit pinnacle cap as soon as I can so I can either run the content I want to run or play other games.
quote:In your case, prioritize time invested for reward over reward type. If you can complete two powerfuls in the same time it takes to run three strikes, do that instead of the strikes. Running a legendary Nightfall will usually net both the powerful for Nightfall completions and the pinnacle for 100k score. Same with the weekly story mission and Dares of Eternity. So you could get six drops in those three activities. Play efficiently, and you'll hit the powerful cap in two resets.

Now, if they could only keep that hype/intrigue for an entire season instead of fizzling out after 7-8 weeks.

I'm only doing it because I have a problem

Once you get to the cap the grind is real.
Like doing 3 pinnacles and they all three drop helms at 1576 when you have other gear still sitting at 1573. It feels like a wasted week.
