Obsidian forced to drop Avowed 2, to focus on new Fallout game

I think I love Asha
This was a baller move, and the right one
Even if Obsidian were able to right the ship and make a solid Avowed sequel. the title left a bad taste in many players' mouth. Selling people on the sequel to a meh game. . .after their last game played Outer Worlds 2. . .which was also meh
That was going to be an uphill battle
They need to go back to the hits, and they have almost the entire writing (minus one) team that did New Vegas in the building

But they also apparently gutted a lot of senior design people with Bethesda that were actively working on TESVI.
And if it's a new Fallout game, that's at least another 4 or 5 years down the road, enough time for MS to screw that up as well.

What does that mean?
Generally speaking, "re-worked game" by definition means that it would be lesser than if it were designed from the ground up as Fallout.

Quality of the game will depend on the team working on it. Using assets from a cancelled game is actually pretty standard in all studios

It depends on how far along in development. Avowed and New Vegas are wildly different games. A Fallout-skinned Avowed will flop hard.

I mean, if that is what they did, yes it would flop.
But there is zero chance that is going to happen.

He guesses about as much as everyone else out there. I personally wouldn't out much stock in that.

That is his thing, and he is very careful when he speaks on them

Hard to view this as anything but a good move.

No one asked for a sequel to Avowed

Except I can't remember how many times I saw him suggest that one or the remasters was going to be announced soon. I quit listening after a while.

and also, from yesterday:
Fallout 3 Remake Gameplay Leak Has Fans More Excited Than Ever
quote:
“Someone else has put in quite a lot of work into a remake that has yet to officially materialize,” Gerstmann said. “I don’t even know if that game is—I assume that that is still happening, but maybe it is dead. Who can say?” Before adding, “I have seen footage of a Fallout 3 remake, so someone somewhere made something.”

They exist, I know, but Matty has said multiple times he's expected an announcement of the release of them on multiple occasions.
I remember Jeff Grubb was one of the first ones to report that the Oblivion remake was imminent.
I'm not saying Matty is full of it, but I stopped listening to his "it may be coming soon" type videos after a while.

Not their fault Howard wants to pull an Oblivion and announce it days before release

Whether first or not is immaterial, he was really early.

This whole thing reeks of trust me bro but I actually believe it this time for one reason alone.
Xbox is in their we want our bag era and Bethesda make Naughty Dog look like the model of efficiency in terms of game cadence. Left to Bethesda we might get fall out 5 by like 2035.
So yeah I actually believe this because Xbox wants their money. They want to be pushing their big IPs and I think it is funny little Todd got put in his place

She is forcing them to work on a franchise that makes money, instead of a franchise they hope they can turn around

Wait 6 years and 100 million into south of midnight wasn’t a solid sound financially wise investing play?

It makes sense to announce a new fallout game. Do i realistically think we see anything of this anytime soon if ever? no. Do i think it will be what we hope it will be? also no.
Firing a quarter of the team responsible for this, most of which were developers with a lot of experience doesnt help. Kinda shooting yourself in the foot.
