Next Year (2023) won't have a COD, world is changing.

quote:

According to Bloomberg, sources familiar with the situation, executives in charge of the franchise have made the decision early after "a recent entry in the series failed to meet expectations," leading them to believe that Call of Duty's current annual cadence of releases was too rapid. The decision is reportedly unrelated to the recent Microsoft purchase of the publisher, and the 2022 Call of Duty release is still on track.

read some twitter conversations yesterday about how MW2 will be a 2-year game and that all of it's supporting contact won't be ready for at least through the first year after release.

Considering Call of Duty is a $60 game littered with microtransactions, maybe not developing one for a year could prove more economically feasible.

this might have more to do with Treyarch being on a two year cycle. sledgehammer really screwed them with that.

BLOPS 4 (2018)
BOCW (2020)
BLOPS? (2023)

then again, this could be a microsoft decision.

Good, it hasn't been worthy of a yearly release for awhile.

SledgeHammer bungled CoD 2020...I'm not even sure if it was supposed to be BLOPS CW but Treyarch had to step in and get something out that wasnt that great. Then Sledgehammer put out Vanguard which even as an easily amused gamer as myself found to be pretty dogshit. So yea I think you are right.

it'd be cool if they made a post-apocalyptical game instead of a war type game.

I have no idea how this will work out for them, the franchise is in a bad place right now. BUT the current model of annual releases is just not working anymore for the end users. The games have been broken and just not interesting to play at any level. They need to move away from annual releases so for that I give them credit for making the right decision. Let’s hope it’s a really good game and they can find exciting ways to keep people playing for that long.

Is vanguard good? Worth buying?

it's as if WWII happened with WWII era guns, but with red dot sights and ACOGs from the 50s and up.

I’d rather games take their time anyway. Yearly releases scream money grab.

Personally, I’ve enjoyed it. However, it’s the first COD game I’ve really taken the time to get into in a while, so maybe that’s the reason I’ve enjoyed it rather than the game just being really good. As Finch said, it is weird that we have dot sights, ACOG scopes and modern sniper scopes in a WWII game.

And yet the 2024 CoD will look and play just like all CoDs that have come before.

That's what I'll never understand about the struggles these CoD developers are having. Every single year since like 2005 a CoD game has released with a 5 hour single player campaign (except Black Ops 4 whereby they couldn't even manage a campaign). Multiplayer is the same game modes over and over. The only thing different is the maps. Does it really take 2-3 years to design each CoD's new (mediocre) multiplayer maps?

At some point you have to stop blaming the development cycle (which isn't annual) and take a hard look at the companies themselves.
