This is bad? Although I'm not a fan of exclusives, but we are covered as Master Racers.

Microsoft is just utilizing its greatest weapon to “win” the console war. If Sony doesn’t like it maybe they should have made a better offer

They have to, because all the exclusives are on PS.

For years if you owned a PC, you just needed a PS to cover the rest of the must have games.

Yeah at this point, Microsoft sees the value that gaming is going to have in the future and is buying up big game developers to force PlayStation users to, at minimum, buy a PC and use the Xbox platform to play their games. Sony doesn’t have the money to compete with that

It's not good until Blizzard gives corporate America the middle finger and goes back to doing what they want, but the people who would do that are long gone.

All the people that made the IP's have already left and most have started their own or joined other gaming companies. Blizzard is never going back to what it was.

This is a great move by MS. COD and Candy Crush print money and the Blizzard IP's of Diablo and Overwatch have a lot of development potential. WoW is in a weird spot but will still bring in good money.

Activision had become corrosive ruining everything they’ve touched recently. Hopefully Microsoft ownership will change some things.

This really cannot be said enough.

Honestly Sony really fricked up poking the bear with the Xbox One/PS4 launch.

The console wars before then were not really a thing and each had a place. Sony really did some dirty tactics that screwed Microsoft over and it has been on since then.

You could also look at it as righting the ship for Microsoft as well. They are laser focused now on gaming and it will be the eventual end of Sony. May they enjoy their time with Atari in gaming heaven.

Yeah, Microsoft is more likely to get EA than Sony.

EA market cap is $39B
Sony market cap is $145B
Microsoft market cap is $2.3T - That is a T, not a B

If you can't beat them then just buy up all the competition to force people to play on your platform

That aside, a lot like Disney, I'm not sure I want one company in charge of so many IPs.

Regarding Activision, I really don't want to play Tony Hawk 6 on an Xbox Controller :(

Once again, Microsoft proving why Sony may win the console sales war but they’re going to buy up everything and take over the future by making Xbox not just a console

Frankly I think the console business annoys them. They're going all in on the game streaming. I've tried it a couple of times and I guess it's passable but on a normal home connection (eg, cable 200 down/10 up 30ms latency) it's just not as crisp for now. That may change as (if) we all start getting fiber.

In their mind, streaming changes the entire game--it doesn't matter what you have. The goal will be that you can play your entire game pass catalog on anything that's capable of streaming Netflix.

I'm kinda sentimental about consoles and will continue on that option as long as it is there.

If you can't create your own exclusives that'll compete with PS, might as well buy all the IPs. It's a power move for sure.

Also, as someone who doesn't play COD or any of these games, I could care less. BUT... what's this mean for Crash & Spyro?

I think they were trading places with Apple as the most valuable company in the world.

Also, that's just market cap. Which typically follows better revenue and profits, but it has to be said that Microsoft has way more revenue and is significantly more profitable. And they are a software company first--Sony is a hardware company first, and it's shown throughout the generations (ie, xbox live being better, but sony having consoles that don't "red ring").

Sony has to be shitting their pants. They can't keep up if this is an acquisition battle.

I've had both consoles but xbox is my sentimental favorite. Had one from every generation. Was amazing to see MS kick Sony's arse (in the US, 2 to 1) during the 360 era, only to just punt it back due to the disastrous xbox one/kinect/tv/drm fiasco at launch.

They seem to be more even this generation so far, but if MS can make all these acquisitions work, they have a significant leg up with the content.

More competition >>>> less competition

Normally I would agree but the video game market is a wide open expanse. Anyone can make their own game, depending on time and manpower available. Make it good enough and people will flock to it.

The real problem with games these days is the primary focus being on how a new feature, addition, expansion, etc can be monetized rather than focusing first on the "is it fun" factor.

LOL. “When the transaction closes, Microsoft will become the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony.”

True, but that is what you buy.

Microsoft has $130B in cash Q3 2021 - 5% decline from 2020
Sony has $16 in cash in cash Q3 2021 - 59% decline from 2020

The only gaming company that can survive what Microsoft is about to do is Nintendo and that’s because they have no need or aspiration for expanding. They have their core fans and they know as long as they keep putting out Zelda and Mario with the occasional new IP like Splatoon, they will be fine.

I still love the story about Microsoft trying to buy Nintendo in the early 2000’s and the guy from Microsoft was laughed at his entire presentation
