Picked it up over the weekend. So far it’s everything I wanted Persona to be. I understand Persona 5 is a great game but I can’t really deal with all that downtime and calendar highschool stuff. But always loved the combat system, music, and look of the game.

Metaphor is indeed a game of the year contender and a quality JRPG. Wasn’t even on my radar until I saw its rating while scrolling through metacritic.

I do wish the main character was a little ughhh less feminine in looks but it’s the Japanese so it just is what it is.

Everything else has been great so far. Would recommend for any JRPG fan or for anyone like me who likes certain aspects of Persona but wanted something a little more streamlined and in a fantasy setting.

I downloaded the demo on steam. Haven’t gotten around to checking it out yet though.

It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten into a jrpg not counting the ffvii remakes. Maybe this one will reel me back in

You will know enough from the demo weather you want to buy or not. I think the combat is phenomenal for turn based. Doesn’t feel slow. Makes you think and has all the old school jrpg aspects to go along with it.

I’m like 24 hours in between the demo and main game. I like it more than persona

I've currently got 40 hours in it and am loving it. My only issue is that when you move up the archetype lineage you don't get to keep the previous skills in that archetype's lineage. I am looking forward to getting off of work and playing for a couple of hours when I get home.

For example, going from Mage to Wizard you have to use your skill inheritance slots to use skills you should have access to, even if they are the weaker version of a spell you'll learn down the line. It makes your characters weaker when you increase their job skill.

My experience with this game thus far is that it's Persona but worse in every way.

word of advice, don't use all your mana in first dungeon before boss.

As someone that absoluter never finished persona 4, this may be my game of the year.

Holy shite. This is perfect. The story setting and combat overmap is just awesome

Persona 5 and Royal may be my 2nd favorite game of all-time, behind Final Fantasy IX and I wouldn't say it's worse than Persona in every way. I am loving Metaphor ReFantazio. It has a lot of great quality of life changes and I'm really enjoying the story so far. I have some complaints, like my one above about losing your lower level skills when you upgrade your archetype in the same lineage but it's a minor one.

Merchant class is a lot of fun for overworld. Felt like I was cheating.

Just finished the dungeon with the trap treasure chests while underleveled used my light magic on 2 characters and buffed em up with heimsdell set as a gunner

This is the first game since ffx where I feel like the classes are seamless and I really use the synthesize to exploit the best of the turn based combat.

It's much more fun to me than even baldurs gate 3

Just finished the first dungeon and went to do a bounty in the desert. Spent 3 hours last night just farming dogs and sandworms with my merchant money bonus on. Went from 50k to 400k effortlessly and got quite a few levels. Combat overmap just made it too easy not to take advantage of that grinding spot.

Will probably pump in a few more hours before I finally leave.

I hope u were using merchant class haha. I will say there's. A nice bounty in the next town that gave me a difficult time even with all the grinding. Which classes u running?
I slowed my progress down by grinding the spot in the desert on mage knight and merchant. But when u hunt the bounty in next town u can get a lot better items grinding it out on the green butterflies.

Man this game is so legit I can't wait to play again Sunday.

The only think bad so far to me is the time schedule where it locks u in like 4 days in a row where u can't free roam. But then they seem to give u like 10 free days

Def was using merchant. I have been running mostly mage, warrior, and knight while not grinding. Subbed in healer for a little bit to get white magic spell as a cross skill during that first dungeon. About to test out brawler for a bit.

I'll give it another go at some point. It's hard to fit in between Ys X and Dragon Age coming out soon.

The game is absolutely incredible. It is well on its way to topping rebirth for goty for me. Atlas making a gruff fantasy setting away from high school. Chefs kiss. I know no one here cares about my opinion but if jrpgs are your thing this is a MUST BUY, It gives off a vibe of true innovation in the jrpg space pushing it forward. My guess is im roughly 50% done i assume (game is absolutely massive) ahead of most people. It does have the trademark atlas slow start so be aware. P5 took like 6 hours to get moving this one isnt that bad. so far 9.5/10 docking half a point for their bs sell old persona outfit bundle AND music for like 9 bucks each.

I believe itll end up being goty to me,

If you have never played persona before but are interested in them imo this game makes for the best entry point. it is essentially a persona SMT fusion.

I promise you that you will absolutely fricking love it. It streamlines things from persona and SMT into a FF style job system with real time elements implementing stakes for the turn based battle following it, and much much much more. It is the best jrpg thats not a remake I can remember in a long long long time. The time element of persona and how you spend it is far more smoothed out and less stressful you dont feel you must play absolutely optimal for everything. It is just a very streamlined culmination of a bag of jrpg stuff mostly from atlas with its own innovation. Ill say no more.

Run the demo. On hard you can get up to 15 hours from it.

The only problem u had was having to level up healer to 10 to do mage knight, merchant, warrior.

Brawler seems like the hp costs for attacks makes it too steep.

Im still running merchant and swap out inherited spell to whatever the next dungeon weakness is.

Paid 40k for some weapon so even his basic attacks hit ok. Mostly just do the coin toss and whatever I swap in for boss weakness.
