Tried to play the original years ago after playing 2 and 3 and just couldn't because of how dated the combat felt, but I'm loving it in the remaster. I know they've polished it up quite a bit and tweaked the combat, but I'm finding myself wondering what happened to a lot of the features that were in the first game and not in the others. Here are a few of my spoiler-free impressions about 15 hours in:
Being able to land on and explore planets in a free-roam mode goes a long way in making the game feel bigger and less on-rails. I've actually really enjoyed traversing the harsh terrains of undeveloped planets and the radically different biomes offer up frequent and refreshing changes in scenery.
I like the ability to holster and draw your weapon anywhere/anytime. Makes the game feel more seamless and real rather than breaking the game up into structured "safe" and "combat" areas.
In some cases it doesn't matter what response you pick, the actual spoken dialogue is the same. It's not exactly common, but it does happen.
They definitely simplified/toned down the RPG elements in the later installments. Always a bummer.
I'm loving the plot so far. Done mostly side stuff to this point, but even the side stuff has been interesting enough that I don't really care to progress the main plot as much. Very Witcher 3-esque in that regard, which I did not expect at all. At this rate it might actually challenge ME2, but part of ME2's strength is how well it ended so the real test hasn't happened yet.
Overall I'm glad I got the trilogy even if the other two turn out to be awful (I'm sure they aren't), because this remaster has done wonders for the first game in the series.

Credit cap is 9,999,999 in ME1. You can carry over 10% to ME2. Depending on the level you finish at, you can start ME2 as high as level 5. Unlike in the original, you don’t actually have to max. I know 57 is sufficient. I’ll spare the details behind why (on my phone, and that’s a lot of typing), but you should be able to max if you use original leveling but you can’t max if you use the new leveling. There simply not enough xp in the game. I did basically everything and *barely* hit lvl 29. And depending on how much you gather in minerals, you start ME2 with more resources.

About to platinum ME1.
Only thing I had to do was create a new character to get the neural shock achievement.
Killed Kaiden before realizing I needed him to get it.
Next to platinum ME2.

Kaiden is too thirsty for my Femshep. He has to go.
I definitely bone/scissor Liara, though.

Kaiden is a huge vagina. No need for two adepts in the party.
Ashley learns the errors of her ways through my teachings.
And Liara got it.

I dont think I've ever used Kaiden in a mission (through 3 playthroughs of ME1). I'll have him in the party sometimes when I am running through the Citadel doing small side quests, but that's it. At least Ashley's expertise in all weapons has a use in some missions assuming your Shepard isnt also a soldier (no point in having two soldiers on a mission).
I accidently used Ashley on the end game mission of ME1 last night. I forgot that I couldn't swap party members out once Ilos starts. Oops. But she was solid with her sniper rifle through the entire end game until the final boss battle.

No need for two adepts?!?
Oh darling, just wait until you get to ME2 and learn about biotic detonations…

He was hating ME3 long before most people on here even played it.

Those were the days. Mentioning ME3 in any capacity was like sending out a Scruffy signal...and he always answered.

Those were simpler times.
We had some great threads on ME3.

Has anyone gotten through 3 yet?
Did they give Marauder Shields a name and backstory?

Mea culpa. The way you were talking, it sounded like this was your first ride
The ending of ME3 post-extended cut-post-Leviathan is fine. Fight me :p

I love this series so damn much. Playing through this again after all this time makes me miss old BioWare.

It baffles me that so many people bitch that the remaster didn't go far enough. I would have paid them the price of admission solely for functional native 21:9, AMD cpu support, and a new texture pack. I genuinely hope this paves the way for other "modern classic" remasters like KOTOR on the older side and Fallout: New Vegas on the newer end. I know people consider remasters cash grabs, but I genuinely don't care. I don't want pieces of gaming history to die.

I would have paid full price again just to be able to play original release ME1 on my PS4.
I have probably played ME1 the most out of all of them.
These games never even needed to be remastered.
Base game is damn near perfect.

The only reason I wanted this was to have controller support on PC without having to run some mod for it.
