I put in about 45-50 hours. Beat the divine beasts and just quit. Never wanted to go back really but it was fun.

It's an amazing game mechanics wise. The best combat and weapon system of the series and climbing is one of the best things the franchise has ever done. But the open ended world is starting to wear down on me and the realization that most of the map is empty has set in.

Think I beat my first Devine beast at 70hrs.

Yea, that's too much. I meant by the 45-50 hour mark I had finished all 4. It was fun but didn't draw me back.

Depends on the game. I rarely play games anymore. Haven't touched many games this year or gamed in months. If it grabs me it grabs me.

I am really surprised at some of the responses in regards to BOTW. I think I have it as my top Zelda game that I've ever played. I understand how exploring could get tedious for some, but it was my favorite part of the game. I don't think it is perfect by any means, but it's one of the few games that I would just randomly think about during the day.

I also understand the love for MM, but I gave it a try when I was 13 and again more recently. I still haven't come close to finishing it. That could because I have a kid now, but I've just never felt the urge to make sure I finished it like OOT and BOTW.

One game that hasn't been mentioned yet is Link Between Worlds. I really enjoyed the game dynamic of flattening against the wall and going to the other dimension. I think it's very underrated.

My problem with the open world games is they are too immersive and take too much time. I cant jump on in the evening for an hour and play a level or two. I've gone back to PS2 and N64 mostly because of that.

I actually felt that BotW solved that problem well enough.

If you mapped out a couple of spots in longer play sessions, you could hop in another noght and do a 15 minute challenge, make some food, and complete a quest or two all in under an hour.

I borrowed a friend’s Switch after he beat it and played for like 3-4 hours before putting it down and haven’t picked it up again since.

The constant weapon breaking was something I could not get passed. Minor complaint to some, but it was so annoying to me I just couldn’t play anymore.

I read the new Red Dead has weapons (guns) that will break as well and I’m praying to God it won’t be like the system was in BoTW.

I just don’t see why people think OoT is some holy grail of gaming. It’s an excellent game, but I don’t agree with pedestal it’s put on.
A lot of that has to do with the fact that 3D gaming was still relatively new at the time, so when OoT went completely 3D and did it WELL on top of that, the awe that it inspired playing through it for the first time was unreal. It was an experience that really hadn't been available before then. I still vividly remember the first time I stepped out onto Hyrule Field.

Not to mention the music, the storytelling, and the characters were all extremely well done. The controls made sense and felt good. That to me is one of the more impressive feats OoT pulled off considering what little info they had to go off of for games of that type at the time.

That said, BotW was able to replicate that for me. In this day and age that's extremely hard to do. It was able to give me a new experience with Zelda while also providing those "Wow..." moments from the sheer beauty/scope of the game. That's why I give it the nod.

Link Between Worlds is great, but if we're talking about truly underrated games, Minish Cap is at the top of the list. Probably a testament to how deep the GBA library is.

I don't know if it was because I did not read anything about the game at all but that never really crossed my mind.

It was more like...dammit my weapons keep breaking...I need to find better stuff and not waste it on certain enemies at the moment.

Just to be clear. I really enjoyed the hell out of this game. I just took a break and never really wanted to go back even though I invested like 40-50 hours. Same thing happened to me with fallout 4.

BoTW is a great game but I was not fond of the Beast. I really wish they would have kept with themed temples. The shrines got really old to me. Collecting orbs was just not as rewarding as as hunting heart pieces.

OoT
A link between worlds
Link to the past
Twilight princess
Majoras Mask
Then BoTW for me.

^ I think that is just a testament as to how well that franchise has done.

Agreed. Minish Cap was a lot of fun. I went on a Zelda binge fa year or 2 ago. I played OOT, Minish Cap, Link Between Worlds, TP, and MM. I enjoyed the hell out of all of them. I played many of them on a refurbished 3Ds that I bought just for Zelda. Then, I got the switch just for Zelda and Mario. I am hoping that Wind Waker is made available on the Switch eventually. That's the one Zelda I've never played that everyone says is great.

I just couldn’t get into it

The best part of the Zelda experience for me is to be able to go out and explore and learn at your own pace. Having to keep my eye on a clock just kills that for me

I’ve played it replayed 5 Zelda games in the past 2 years and majors mask is at the bottom

Botw, Ocaina of Time, link to the past, and link between worlds were all more enjoyable plays and replays
