change my mind.

this game has it all.

the dungeons didnt suck that much. maybe a little. but the overworld is goat.

unique as hell time mechanic
creepy villian with pure evil intentions
collectibles (masks) before collectibles were even a big thing in video games. altho super mario 64 set the standard for this

confusing alien abduction quest
toilet monster
goat sidequest (wedding)

my trump card: this game is playable and fun today. every thing that made it great in 1998 still makes it great in 2018. oot fades with time.

and i loved the water dungeon in oot.

but really. the masks. how much fun was it being a goron

and yes, im taking BotW into consideration.

I disagree.

As do many others. I won’t waste my time trying to justify OoT.

No. Just no.

Maybe top 5.

Played through it twice in the last 5 years. Still as awesome as it was in 98 and is better than BOTW. Although BOTW came close to dethroning it for me.

For me it goes

1) OoT
2) BOTW
3) Windwaker
4) Twilight Princess
5) LttP/Majora's Mask

I agree, but can’t take BOTW into consideration because I haven’t bit the bullet for a switch yet.

Majoras Mask was a refreshing twist on Zelda with the 3 days mechanic. Incredibly dark storyline, tons of side stuff that incorporated the clock mechanic. I loved it.

I’d rank LTTP and Wind Walker above OOT, but that’s strictly personal opinion.

i do realize majoras mask is a polarizing topic and did want to start a discussion.

these are all great games but majoras mask was just so unique and remains largely unparalleled in the last 20 years. every shite company attempts to replicate the open world 3d rpg, which i readily admit OOT is the godfather of this genre, but majoras mask cannot be replicated

fwiw i really enjoyed wind waker so i realize my opinions on zelda are... different

You're right.

You have to have a very high IQ to appreciate that game. Glad to see there is at least one intellectual on this board.

the water dungeon made me question every thing i knew about video games and challenged me in ways that are hard to duplicate. every shitty key was perfectly placed and every hour spent there was worth it.

dark link was the cherry on top and still amazes me to this day.

maybe it was the graphics. i dont know. the boat stuff wasnt the best but every island i visited was enjoyable and i felt sufficiently challenged when on land.

kicking back with a beer and etc and exploring every square with a wiiu gamepad was satisfting in its own unique way

not sure i can put WW above OOT personally but can certainly respect the opinion and reasons for it.

you should get BotW. its biggest feature, the giant world, is also its biggest flaw. a lot of wasted space. but exploring it on a first time playthru is amazing.

there are some overworld puzzles (labyrinths, pitch black forest, this one island) that ill never forget

the shadow temple in oot was legit disturbing. ive read some fanfic/speculation on what each room was used for and its speculated purpose and it certainly elevated OoT in my mind.

the best argument for oot > MM is dungeons and i cant counter that. its true. if you love dungeons then oot and tp reign supreme

Wind Waker is the correct answer. And this is coming from someone who has played the series from the beginning, on all of the original consoles, all at release.

quote:

the dungeons didnt suck that much.

WW had the most varied set of "Dungeons."

quote:

but the overworld is goat.

And the best Overworld.

quote:

unique as hell time mechanic

WW Overworld and the water. Better version of songs than OoT

quote:

creepy villian with pure evil intentions

Best verion of Gannondorf

quote:

collectibles (masks) before collectibles were even a big thing in video games. altho super mario 64 set the standard for this

F-ing treasure charts man. So perfect for Zelda.

quote:

confusing alien abduction quest

Withered Trees and ChuChus

quote:

toilet monster

Puppet Gannon

quote:

goat sidequest (wedding)

I'll give that one to MM. Wind Waker's focus on exploration makes most of the sidequests collect/find.

quote:

my trump card: this game is playable and fun today. every thing that made it great in 1998 still makes it great in 2018. oot fades with time.

I feel like WW holds up better than any other Zelda game. Probably to each his own on this one.

To me, the exploration in WW puts up above the rest until BotW outdid it. However, WW gets style points for being a synthesis of the the entire storyline, the innocence of Zelda, mixed with the visuals and Soundtrack. It's a singular experience, and executed perfectly.

For me:

Top Tier
Wind Waker
BoTW
OoT
LttP

Middle Tier
MM
Spirit Tracks
LoZ
TP
LA

Lower Tier
2
PH
MC
SS
4S
Oracles

Agreed for me. Majoras mask seemed way ahead of its time. It's my favorite zelda game for sure.

The last zelda I played was wind waker so I've missed all the new stuff.

MM is the GOAT and Wind Waker is a close second.

I love OoT, don’t get me wrong, just appreciate the other two more.

I do find it funny how this topic triggers OoT fanboys like you just called their mother a cum guzzling slut though.

It goes both ways. You slam on the 3 day mechanic (I'm one of those) and MM fans lose their shite.

My top 3, and honestly all of them are interchangeable:

-Link to the Past
-Ocarina of Time
-Twilight Princess

I feel like I would include Wind Waker in that list if I could get myself to finally play it. I have my sister's Wii U with the remaster on it with a pro controller, just haven't found the time to break it out.

You aren’t wrong, I guess it’s just because there are less MM fanboys for this to be echoed as loud as their counterparts.

I just don’t see why people think OoT is some holy grail of gaming. It’s an excellent game, but I don’t agree with pedestal it’s put on.
