Got around to playing lastnight.
The Longshot story is even more corny than last year character/story wise. Gameplay is fun. Devin Wade is on the Cowboys fighting for a spot on the roster. Colt Cruise is trying to start a music career and is reliving his high school glory days. You get to play with the high school team again in the state championship game. That’s about as far as I got into the story.

As far as gameplay and graphics, it doesn’t feel much different from Madden 18. I wasn’t going to pick it up but I read that they added custom draft classes so I budged and preordered it. That was always something I wanted for madden that NBA 2k had.

They also added new specialist positions. You can now choose a third down half back, a power back, and a slot receiver on offense.
On defense, you can choose who you want in your nickel packages, and I forgot what the other two defensive specialist positions were.

The game will be playable for everyone tonight at 11:00 pm

There is ZERO run game. The offensive like cannot block at all. I’ve bought the last 4 and I think I’m going to pass this year at least as of now. There’s not a big enough jump from 18 to this one.

So there is actual gameplay and not just basically a bad animated story?

Figured that. Reason I haven’t liked the last few. Guess I am in the minority but I like to run the ball

Your offensive line will get pushed back into your RB

When they decide they want to actually block it will only last 1 sec then they will run else where. Last night I had my Center fall flat on his face for no reason.

Your pulling guards will miss their assignments and the d line will shoot the gap he left. The d line sheds blocks like it’s nothing.

At halftime of a game yesterday I had 7 rushes for -3 yards. It seems like tosses to the outside are the only run plays that have a slight chance.

Oh and they killed the screen game.

I enjoy running the ball as well. Last few maddens have started making it increasingly difficult

Is this one of those situations that they had this feature...removed it...and added it back in? I thought the last time I was playing madden I always made sure to adjust who my 3rd down back is.

added custom draft classes

Can anyone explain what this is? Or provide a link?

At the start of your franchise mode you can import custom draft classes that the community has made with the real life college players.

This will be the first time in a long time I won't be purchasing. Leaning that way with 2K too. When there is no competition, this is what happens.

Same, I'm venturing more and more away from sports games because they've started to become pretty underwhelming. Which is too bad.

People buy the game early for more $$ once again, and yet still complain before the actual launch date of standard version, once again. Never gets old.

Meh, I don't plan on purchasing anything until it hits like $20. I was a fanboy for years and defended Madden vehemently but it gets exhausting when the only new additions every year are vague game play and engine improvements while focusing their energy on MUT so they can make a few extra bucks. Overhaul franchise, O-Line/D-Line play, and nerf ratings like NBA 2K did and maybe I'll get excited again for the series.

That's cool. I just can't stand how the game looks now. The running animation looks so blocky and stupid. I try to rent it every year but I guess it was just better when I was younger.

I think I’ve only seen that horrible running animation on kick returns.

My other beef is the game looks washed out when you play outdoor games. Everything is so dark and the field is brown.

yep. i spent the majority of my life playing sports games and now it just feels like the genre is done. Frostbite engine hasnt helped, we get all these fancy expensive animations and they end up dictating how the game plays. last years 2k was the worst i've ever played, Madden has been the same core game for 4 or 5 years. how they completely broke the offensive line is inexcusable.

i tried it at a friends house and wont be purchasing

FIFA has become entirely focused on ultimate team mode because whales will dish out thousands of $$$ on it.

i'm putting a hold on purchasing sports games until we get some actual core gameplay changes

Last year’s Madden was way too easy to run the ball

Even with stout defenses such as HOU or DEN, you had to stay in base defense otherwise an inside zone from Trips will go for 5 yards every time.

If I were you, check out what 2K is doing with MyLeague.

They’re adding draft classes going back to 1976... if you’re a MyLeague fan this year’s 2k is a must. Also they’re adding varying degrees of difficulty to MyGM. It won’t be as scripted as last year’s addition which was garbage.

Problems I had with it

1. (isolated incident) a slot WR deep post route over the middle to Meredith. When Meredith looked for the ball he looked over the outside shoulder of the route towards the trailing defender(2 yards of separation), away from the QB, instead of looking to the inside of the route where the ball ended up hitting him in the facemask. It looked glitchy as frick and all out retarded.

2. Instead of improving the run game they just made it more difficult at the expense of logic. You can still run on people but they want you to treat every back like Leveon Bell in terms of patience and when to hit the gas. In addition they have an overly complicated juke, stop n go, and stiff arm feature that you will need to know in order to have a prayer for establishing the running game. The system requires you to predetermine the best of the 3 moves to use and the best of the 3 variations of that move that will work best on a case by case scenario.

3. The screen game is no where near as effective as it can be in real life when set up properly. Teams usually sniff it out in the game quickly regardless of context.

4. Defenders make unrealistic plays or breaks on the ball causing turnovers far more often than simply breaking up the play. based on the gameplay you would think turnovers in the NFL are at an all time high.

all in all I think it is better than 18 but still nowhere near what Madden was in the mid 00s
