lol, it was a well actually, not sure if Barlog's comments were widely known

He did hint at a future game recently in some twitter comments, but this was his comments on the series back in September of last year.

LINK

quote:

Unlike the preceding trilogy, the Norse story of God of War will end after the second game. According to Sony Santa Monica creative director Cory Barlog, the studio just didn’t want to spend 15 years working on three titles.

Barlog shared his thoughts on the decision during an interview with Kaptain Kuba on YouTube. He said that the first game, which came out in 2018, took five years, and the second one is going to take “close to a similar time,” which means that making a third title will stretch the development to 15 years.

“I feel like we’re asking too much, to say the actual completion of that story taking that long just feels too long and given sort of where the team was at and where [Eric Williams] was at with what he wanted to do, I was like look, I think we can actually do this in the second story,” Barlog explained.

God of War: Ragnarok is expected to come out in 2022 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The game will serve as a sequel to 2018’s title, telling the story of Kratos and Atreus trying to prevent Ragnarok from happening.

He's currently working on a new IP, and if you watch the beginning of Raising Kratos, doing something that WASN'T God of War was appealing and exciting for a lot of people at the studio. I'm sure they'll revisit GoW at some point, but they have other stuff they want to do as well.

Good lord they fricked this game up in the 3rd act. Atrocious writing and pacing that abandoned all the cool shite set up by 2018. The Marvelization of every media property is something else.

The Ragnarok sequence was such a joke Cory should be ashamed that this is how they treated his baby. Cory + 3 writers >>>>>>> the 8 person writing team on this one. They broke so many screenwriting tenets it's silly.

What a disappointment. They nailed EVERYTHING except for the writing and as a result it soured everything else for me.

Man some of these Beserker bosses are driving me nuts. The 3 on 2 fight is really tough. I just rage quit. Having to fight the one guy while the other two rain down fire and ice at you is such bullshite. I'll try tomorrow evening, but damn they're no joke. I never messed with the Valkyries on the 2018 game, so I will probably go back and tackle them when I finish this one up.

I no-hit them on GMGOW at level 6. Abuse them with Scorched Earth and realm shifts, so OP. Really try to focus on killing the sisters first. It’s difficult but so helpful. The sisters get new moves once the big one is dead but the big one doesn’t change if you kill sisters first

Just have to knock out Berserker King and Gna

I've done a couple Beserker's so far. One was purple, so it meant I was underleveled and it took me about 30 mins. Once I figured out his attack pattern it wasn't too bad. I got him down to one hit and got greedy and died, so frustrating.

I spent about two hours cleaning up The Forbidden Sands in Alfheim, and now I just rejoined Freya at Vanaheim.

I'm really enjoying it so far.

I 100%'d the game last night on GMGOW and I couldn't recommend that difficulty to anyone. It's just not very fun. Can't use the majority of runic attacks because enemies don't stagger and they will kill you during the animation if you try a long one like Cyclone (which sucks because the long ones are the coolest ones). Can't experiment. Takes forever to learn movesets because everything kills you in 1-2 hits. Fights last FOREVER

I found most bosses to be easier than the normie groups. Dude there was a fight against a ton of Grims in that big monster skeleton in the desert, I swear it took me 20+ tries. Absurd

Yeah there was one dude in the bay in the dwarf realm that kept locking me up with lighting, and he was purple also.

I tried for like 5 mins, and then noped out of there. The one I beat last night, didn't have any ridiculous range attacks so I just committed to it lol.

eta: Also the phantom elementals are so easy, not sure what they were going for with that mini boss

yeah they were terrible. not sure why they felt the need to put like 10 of them in the game. same with the dragons

lot of copy/paste and padding

just finished up the platinum on this last night.

overall great game. i think from a narrative standpoint the 2018 game was much stronger. i did like the story here a good bit. i dont think id go as far as to say it shite the bed in the 3rd act but it was certainly the weakest point in both games.

from a gameplay and mechanics standpoint this one was much more robust and enjoyed that aspect more. From a challenge standpoint, i felt the special bosses in 2018 were better and more challenging.

the atreus sections were a slog. did not enjoy those sections much at all. i understand the need from a storytelling perspective but each time it went from kratos to atreus i just groaned.

its gonna get a lot of praise for sure and coming into it i thought it would be a dead ringer for my personal game of the year. not sure now. id probably put elden ring above it.

no question. there wasn't a single moment in Ragnarok that topped the epicness of the Blades scene or cinematic greatness that was the 2018 finale. and that's a shame because there were so many more things to play with in this game

I'm not gonna talk about in-depth yet since it's still early and I don't want to risk anyone accidentally reading a spoiler (even though nothing crazy happens that would ruin the game for anyone ). But basically everything you do in this game feels meaningless and none of the major story beats feel earned. Several instances where you go on some epic mission to find someone/something and then it doesn't matter at all. So many arcs and threads that are developed and then left hanging. So many unanswered questions. And so much goddamn padding and filler.

I can't believe they made us pick fruit and fight grandma for 3 hours but Ragnarok is over in 30min

It took me so long to finally ditch this one… I loved it so much but died far more often than not while using it

fricking IGN spoiled the shite out of one of the big twists at the end that I haven’t gotten to yet.

Not only did they spoil it… it was in the fricking title of the video.

Finally beat it. 41 hours in so far, and I really enjoyed it. Now I just have to convince myself to do all the extra stuff at the end and maybe try to platinum it.

still playing GoW 2018 for the first time before digging into Ragnarok. Getting close. I'm on the "Between the Realms" chapter now and getting close to accessing Jotenheim.

I wish I had paid more attention to killing Ravens and the like...Platinum seems very accessible but I'll have to go back and search for those bastards along with some of the other things needed.

Still haven't beaten a Valkyrie yet lol

SPOILERS

Yeah I thought the whole portion in Asgard felt kind of rushed. You get to Thor in 30 minutes then fight Odin right after and it’s over. Didn’t quite have the epic feeling I was expected but it wasn’t terrible

I think the next game will be Kratos peacefully ruling over Asgard and an older Atreus out exploring other worlds/mythologies looking for the Giants.

I guess it might have been rushed, I'm just not sure what else they could have done differently. You're already 25+ hours in to the game if you straight shot the story, do you really want to spend another 2 hours for the ending?
