Give Me God of War is no joke. Every single fight has enemies on a timer and if you don't kill them fast enough, they get super powered. Its better implemented than 2018's GMGOW but still not ideal imo. Fights take a tad too long.
Major difficulty spike when you get to Svartalfheim. The Hateful wore my arse out for a solid 30 min before I beat him.

This games combat would make me rage on high difficulties. Granted, I don’t think I explore the depth of the combat system enough so that would likely help me if I wanted to push myself.
My prelim review after 10ish hours on standard difficulty is that the game is good but it has pacing problems. Trying the wrap up the game now as opposed to a trilogy necessitates some lengthy setup for some things.
I suppose you could make the argument that they are recycling areas except with altered textures ‘because ragnarok’ as well, but I largely don’t seem to mind that.

Although I really enjoy Atreus and his struggles and storyline and gameplay, it does feel strange to spend so much time away from Kratos. I get that this is supposed to be Atreus’s story and his growing pains into who he’s supposed to be, but I miss Kratos when we leave him.
SPOILERS:
I just got to the part where we kind of betray Kratos as Atreus and it hurt like hell to betray everyone like that. Just felt wrong but at the same time I can’t say I blame Atreus for not doing pretty much anything to save your dad. Can’t say I wouldn’t do something similar so even though it comes across as annoying, you can’t really blame him. I do hope they reunite soon and finish the story together. It’s such a catch 22 because I’ve enjoyed getting some others involved in combat (brok, sindri, Angrboda, Freya) but I’d be lying if I didn’t miss the father/son combat. Hopefully they reunite before Ragnarok. And at the same time, I do enjoy seeing this storyline play out with Odin and Thor in Asgard.

Also, this game feels much longer than 2018. I looked up the Mission List: which doesn’t have spoilers. And I’m only on Mission 7 of 18 And I’m already at 12 hours and haven’t even done much side stuff, saving that for a second play through.

I don’t know about you guys, but swapping circle and X has been a game changer. I find evading easier with circle and interacting with X.

I would highly recommend playing the first game before Ragnarok. Incredible game and I’m sure the sequel builds on it. There’s a PS5 upgrade as well.

I didn't think the last game was that hard on GMGOW difficulty. Is this one harder?

This game is everything I wanted it to be. More bosses, more realms and another good story.

Love the game but one annoyance is the amount of npc backseating.
Hey Tyr and Atreus I just want to look around, you don’t have to tell me the right way to go every time I stray away from the path.

SPOILERS
just finished it. Loved it. I don’t think I like it more than 2018 but it’s still fantastic. I think part of the reason, while probably stupid, is the lack of Atreus and Brok/Sindri in the after game. Mimir is great and Freya is cool but it’s just not as fun to play everything after losing Brok and Sindri and Atreus leaving, just doesn’t feel right. I liked the combat more because of the spear and Atreus’s sections but I enjoyed the story and after game of 2018 slightly more. This one was more of Atreus’s coming of age than Kratos’s redemption of 2018.
Also, Sindri’s arc just didn’t sit right with me, him not reconciling with Atreus or Kratos. Just felt wrong. Powerful and intensely sad but wrong. I wonder where they’ll go from here. I feel like Atreus may get a solo game and then maybe a sequel with him and Kratos/Mimir as just background characters and helping out in combat every now and then

I got a couple of PS5's coming and am debating keeping one but I've never played any of them either.
How are they compared to souls games?

No doubt. Like Miles Morales.

I don’t know how to compare to that but this game is incredible. I believe it’s better than 2018. Great sequel and continuation of story. It will win game of the year without a doubt.

This game deserves all the awards it’s about to get. Only complaints would be the npc backseating and not showing Sif enough.

Finally finished over the weekend. Still got some side quests to mop up and there are some post game quests, but I’m in no real rush to get through that content.
Overall, I enjoyed it. Curious how they will continue the franchise.
Spoilers:
Id rather have kratos involved in the next entry, but it seems like the obvious plot thread to follow is Atreus investigating what happened to the rest of the giants.
My ideal sequel is that kratos becomes a protector of Midgard and another pantheon invades. This necessitates that kratos must go on the offensive to protect his flock.

Anybody else have some serious bug issues with this game? The game randomly executes heavy attacks over and over when I'm just walking around or trying to interact with anything like opening a chest, climbing something, getting into a boat, etc. It's almost unplayable.
I've seen a few posts about this issue on Reddit so know it impacts other people, but it doesn't seem widespread.

I haven’t had any major glitches at all.
I fought this mini boss that was on the lake of the nine for like 30 mins last night. I got him one shot a couple times. I was getting pissed lol.

Barlog has already said they won't do a 3rd game. That's not saying they eventually resurrect the series but this won't be a trilogy.

Yeah, the Norse plot is finished. I was taking that into consideration.
However, if you think they are finished making god of war games, I’ve got a bridge for sale.
