Choices matter, CHECK
Story, CHECK
Look in any corner to find something, CHECK
Keybinding, CHECK

I find it hard to pick something I don't like about the game.

A couple years ago, I played through ME 1, 2, and 3 in succession. When I was done, I was like "yep, never having an experience like that again."

Took awhile to come down off that high

Best game ever to me. I've played it about a dozen times.

Two of my top 5 games are BioWare. Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2. Easily one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Mass Effect 3 was just as enjoyable until it wasn't. If you had to nitpick something about ME2, I'd say the combat feels a bit clunky after playing ME3.

I know I'm in the minority, but I like ME1 better. The universe seemed small in the second game compared to the first. I never got to experience that sense of awe of driving around on a foreign planet in the second game. The Firewalker missions were fun, but you didn't really have much freedom in them. That sense of exploration is one reason why I am really looking forward to Andromeda.

Plus, come on, every knows that the probing for resources system was one of the worst things in any of the ME games. Though the inventory of the first is a close second.

God dammit.

This is a metric for you. I do agree, especially on PC.

I agree, I've always thought ME1 was the better of the two. I just remember not being able to put it down, ME2 just didn't feel the same.

I played 1, 2, & 3 for the first time last year. Played them twice in succession. Really great games and yes that includes 3 because by the time I played it, it had the expanded ending and I didn't need to play some multi-player BS to get the best ending.

All 3 games were loaded with emotional moments. MORDIN!!!

I started 2 weeks ago. I'll finish this weekend and I'll probably jump right into 3.

My only beef with 3 is the overly large reaper invasion. Too many ships. By the time I finished gathering troops, getting their loyalty and getting all the quests done, every planet in the universe would be a burnt husk.

I skipped playing 1 this time because I hate the Mako that much! Although I do love the hell out of the closing song at the end of 1.

Great story, choices and gameplay.

They improved greatly on the first game. Got rid of the pain in the arse Mako missions. Got rid of the elevators. Made the resources actually count for something. Improved the upgrade system.

If I had a beef, they dialed down the customization of the characters. You really only had a few skills. Also, wish there was gamepad support, although I know you are Mr. Keyboard Bindings with the hand issues.

I love the entire trilogy, but ME2 probably had the weakest story of all three. There was hardly any major plot advances. Most of the game was centered around the personal storylines of the crew members.

Their biggest upgrade was the combat system

Combat was my biggest gripe about ME1. They turned it into a strength in ME2.

Of course key binding is part of your criteria for what makes a game great

I'm not sure what is going on with my current play through. Every time we get into a fire fight, my damn companions seem to have walked a few blocks behind me.

I don't remember that happening last year when I played, but I have to keep calling them to come over to me when a fight starts up.

ME2 was great. The biggest issue I had was they went too far in the opposite direction from ME1 in regards to items. There was item overload in ME1. They removed all of them in the 2nd and just had a few customization items.
