OoT was revolutionary for it's graphics and story, but MM was better with depth and replay ability.

Great game, but it's not my #1. Definitely in my top 10.

disagree, majora's mask was solid but basically just a new story on the OoT engine.

Yeah, but that new story changed everything from the game mechanics standpoint. There have been plenty of attempts to emulate Ocarina again, and some have gotten close, but none have gotten close to Majora's Mask or really even attempted it.

I know, right? Battlefield 3 is obviously the best video game ever.

Remember the scene with the Skull Kid sitting alone by the tree during the Moon stage? One of the more graphically intense scenes across the whole N64 platform.

Pretty much the last thing you expected when you went up to the Moon, but man was that just intense.

Lets not forget Z TARGETING. OOT was a break though in gaming. It did so many things right, every weapon felt balanced and intergrated well. The story, atmosphere, side quests, damn you spiders!

MM is still the greatest sequel to a great game of all time. Amazing plot /time mechanics, and the mask element was unique.

There's no reason OOT and MM can't be ranked at #1 together.

MM needs to come to 3ds so I can play it, I never really got into it when it came out for some reason.

If I get a Wii n64 controller I am assuming I can download this and play it again?

You assume right. The Wii classic controller ftw.

It wasn't until the current gen that I found a game that integrated a huge seamless non-linear world with challenging yet fun gameplay the way OOT did.

Just goes to show what a great technical achievement it was at the time. I remember leading up to the release people just didn't know how a real time 3D weapons battling system would work in this context. I remember the THREE YEARS of hype and speculation.

I rate it as the best game of all time because it was so far ahead of everything else and represented such a huge leap forward.

Final Fantasy 7 had a much bigger impact on me. When I was growing up, most kids had either the 64 or the PS1, so most of the kids with the 64 never experienced FF7 when it came out.

I don't know how well received this will be on here, but here are 2 of my favorite, in-depth reviews of OOT and MM. The author breaks down all the different aspects of what those games did right (and even wrong in a few cases).

It's worth a watch if you really love these games. They're about 40 min a piece, though, so grab some popcorn.

In all honesty, I really don't think you can even compare MM to OoT. They're completely different in terms of feel, story, execution, and style. OoT was your traditional RPG with about a billion breakthroughs. It was the first 3D open world ever. It introduced Z targeting. While also laying the groundwork story-wise for nearly every Zelda that came after it, including MM. MM polished OoT's graphics which was to be expected seeing as how OoT came out nearly the same time as the N64 itself, while adding completely different elements. The factor of time, masks, a billion sidequests, and a slightly darker story.

It's really hard to compare the two on a level scale simply because they differ so greatly. Either way, both would get raving 10/10's by today's media if put in the same circumstances as their initial release.
