Just from a gamer stand point, I will agree with Majora's Mask being the darkest game. I played it as a kid so I will always have that first impression. I just thought I would bring the Wind Waker story into the discussion.

When I first played it, I remember thinking "Holy shite, Gannon pretty much caused the apocalypse and now my sister has been kidnapped." I was a bit older when this came out so I really thought about how tragic it is.

Never beat Majora's Mask. It's probably on my list of biggest disappointment's as a gamer. Was struggling with the last boss, and I think the PS came out. Put the N64 away and have no idea what my parents did with it.

Similar to what happened with me on A Link to the Past. I got to Gannon's Tower and didn't pick it back up until years later.

I really need to play A Link to the Past again. It's been too long.

I picked it up on the Wii Virtual Console. Sadly, I do not have that game in my SNES collection.

The Windwaker is a beautiful game and a ton of fun. Probably my favorite Ganon showdown.

Wind Waker is severely underrated. People take a dump on it because of the way it looks but it is great.

The Gannon fight is probably the best in the series.

I agree. I had a ton of fun playing it. The problem is I had even more fun playing TP, OoT, and MM =/

I give that nod to TP.

I just played through the 3DS version. I remember thinking that it was one of the best games I'd played when I got the original, but it's even more impressive now that 15 years have passed. The game is still incredible. The updated graphics are outstanding and it gives another generation of gamers access to what is universally recognized as one of the best games of all time.

The Windwaker remake is coming out later this year so it might be a little while, but I have to imagine that they'll remaster Majora's Mask in the near future.

I've been inspired to buy a 64 and replay this. Was a little young at the time, did not finish it or appreciate it for what it was. But FF7 will be hard to replace in my heart.

Because of this thread I picked up Major's Mask after nearly a two year hiatus.

I never beat this game as a kid, and got stuck collecting Zora eggs when I tried to play it just before the last game was released.

What are the general strategies for this game?

Always use the reverse song of time from Day 1 to stretch your time? Deposit rupees and go back to day 1 after completing major tasks? Collect all of the optional masks/items you can early in the game?

The last time I played the game I kept getting frustrated when my time would expire and force me to have to start over.

This may be the first Zelda that I'll need to use a walk through to fully appreciate....

The final boss is a lot easier if you collect ALLLLLLL the masks first.

The Keaton is one of the biggest bitch to get, requiring a full cycle.

But it's a rather touching storyline in a depressing kind of way.

Are there any masks you can't get if you wait too long into the game?

Not really, if I remember right. There are some masks that require precise timing over all three days, i.e. the couple's mask (hardest one, IMO).

Since you can go back to the start of the 1st day repeatedly, you are able to keep trying for the masks.

As someone else said, the Fierce Diety Mask makes the final fight WAY easier.

Another tip, make sure to upgrade your magic a lot for the boss of Stone Tower.

Looking online, it seems like most of the masks are fairly straight forward to obtain, and do make certain tasks much easier.

I guess it is part of the mystique of the game, but I wish they would make some of the mask quests a bit more obvious.

The thing is, when I first got the game years ago, I went through it without getting all the masks first. Some are very hard to figure out what to do. I had the game guide for it.

Most of the masks aren't complicated though.

That storyline was one of the best parts f the game

For Stone Tower boss, get the chateau Romani (infinite magic) and it's a joke.

And one of the reasons I argue that Majora is one if the most evil villains of all gaming. He just fricked up those people's lives for no reason at all.

Completely forgot about that. That is what you do.

Reverse song of time.

After you beat Snowhead, go ahead and go back to day 1, rebeat the boss, do the goron races for gold dust, so you can get your sword fully upgraded.

When you help Romani do the alien killing quest, go ahead and help her older sister the following evening deliver milk for the milk bar mask (allows you to get the chateau milk for unlimited magic power when drank from the bar)

Also, take some red potion and the lens of truth to the first part of the "desert" area with all the gates that forks to the graveyard and the cliff before going for the zora eggs. There is a hidden soldier there who will give you the stone mask for the red potion, which is very useful in sneaking by the Gerudo Pirates.
