They need to turn back time focus on retro and not so much the new. It will be the only way but I think it maybe to late to rebrand like that as I dont think they have the funds to do so.

These local family stores that do that and have card rooms for MTG, yugioh, etc... Host Smash tournaments etc. Do pretty well if they are located properly. Nostalgia will always sell. They have to have give you a reason to go in and not go online.

Can’t wait til they go out of business and attempt to sell all their inventory for peanuts so they can feel what it’s like to get ripped off for once.

They will probably melt down their inventory, than sell it for peanuts. One last chance to screw over the gaming community.

Just a few years ago they were hoping for a buyout and or merger with ToysRus. That's how much longer they have to exist

People are transitioning to digital game sales. The only thing that really kept them afloat was the used market. That’s becoming a smaller and smaller piece of the pie.

I knew it would happen eventually but it's happening at a much faster rate than I anticipated. I figured we'd have at least another 2-3 generations of physical media, we may only have 1 more.

I'll be sad to see GameStop go. I've never really understood the over the top hate for them. The most common complaint is their ripoff prices for trade in games, which is completely true, but nobody is forcing you to sell them your games. Their trade in prices suck, everyone knows this, don't sell them your used games.

All I use them for is picking up physical copies of new releases on launch night. Without Gamestop most people's only widely available option for physical copies of games are at this point the big box retailers like Wal Mart and Best Buy and stuff. Having a store dedicated specifically to games just feels right (even if at this point half the store is just geek pop-culture swag).

I'm resigned to the fact that physical media for games is destined to end at some point, probably sooner rather than later, but still FeelsBadMan.

The problem with GameStop is it's literally run by people who know nothing about the gaming community and don't care to learn. They care about the bottom line. Forever everyone has bitched and moaned about how GameStop employees force shite on them. And what does GameStop do? They give them tablets now so they can meet you at the door and follow you around the store.

I caught some middle aged "salesman" trying to slap the $2 protection on one of my purchases without telling me. I called him out on it and told him what he did was illegal and he could get fired. He got wide eyed and acted like he had no idea and apologized repeatedly. I caught him doing it again a few weeks later to another customer when I was in there and finally asked for their area manager (store managers wont do shite) and I didn't see him after that. I also had another employee basically beg me to get a subscription to their magazine.

Jesus. You got an elderly man fired over $2? The self described community will be it's own demise.

They aren’t going straight down the toilet like Blockbuster did thanks to Netflix but I don’t see them being on every street corner like they are now.

If they made a deal to where exclusive content could be sold only there, different than just DLC..but..I don't see how it would really help studios.

Used and vintage market would be good for them.

Don't put shite on people's bill without them knowing. There's no telling how many times he had done that and screwed people over. He deserved to get fired

hopefully they go soon.

the thing is now even rural people who buy a game have to wait for downloads the first time with physical copy anyways.

but outlying areas still need physical games because it isn’t possible to download 50GB in a reasonable amount of time.

Those areas are closer to a Walmart than they are a GS

In addition, they are serving as a pawn shop for non-software stuff (systems, phones, tablets, etc) and have expanded into collectibles.

This is a very competitive market as it is and not enough to survive on.

It is called assumptive selling and he likely did it at the direction of his bosses. Your reaction to a $2 up charge says more about you than Gamestop.

But thank God you were there to patrol the local gamestop and save everyone from the potential loss of their $2.

There is the thing called the internet where physical copies can be purchased and shipped right to your door without all the Gamestop shenanigans.

Everyone giving Dr. Jones shite knows DAMN well they'd lose their fricking minds if the guy at Applebee's just brought them a coke and charged them for it when all they ordered was water with lemon and extra sugar packets.

Don't let these cheesedicks get you down, Dr. Jones!
