How much longer do you predict GameStop has left?

I think they’ll be there for the launch of the next consoles, but they’ll finally go belly up during next generation after more store closures and layoffs.

People are transitioning to digital game sales. The only thing that really kept them afloat was the used market. That’s becoming a smaller and smaller piece of the pie.

They will probably decline a lot in major markets where broadband is easily obtained but outlying areas still need physical games because it isn’t possible to download 50GB in a reasonable amount of time.

In addition, they are serving as a pawn shop for non-software stuff (systems, phones, tablets, etc) and have expanded into collectibles.

They aren’t going straight down the toilet like Blockbuster did thanks to Netflix but I don’t see them being on every street corner like they are now.

They either own one or sold it, as I used to have it.

They already tried that years ago and failed actually. I bought a PC code of Borderlands 1 earlier this decade thinking it’d be a Steam key, but it was actually a key for Gamestop. Discarded it and just bought it on Steam.

I don't know how long they will last but even though hunting for used games at a good price is something I'm fairly good at and will generally go into the one at the mall when we are waiting to see a movie I still hate them and won't be sad to see them go.

I absolutely hate when my wife uses them to buy me a gift b/c every single fricking time they try and trick her into buying an ultra edition of a new game that costs $50 more than the normal edition or a used version of the game that somebody already used the digital content code for whatever extra content it might have. Then they push some stupid arse damage protection package, a subscription to their magazine/rewards program, and any other number of things in the store she doesn't need that they are currently trying to goad people into buying.

I mean don't get me wrong, I love that she is willing to get me gifts that she knows will likely cause us to have less time together after we get home from work but god damn it drives me crazy how those places take advantage of people who aren't super knowledgeable about what they are buying. What's worse is when she comes home all excited to give a present to me and I have to sit there and smile and not let her know even though she got me something I want and am grateful I'm still kind of mad they screwed her over.

After a few incidents where I felt like they took advantage of her I just started making an Amazon list and told her if she wants to get me anything game related to just get it off there and to let me know if she is expecting a package that she doesn't want me to open.

I mean that is just women in general. I have pretty much to go to any place before my gf buys anything that isn’t groceries or the mall

Car places and GameStop are both the worst at stuff like that.

That's the problem with Gamestop. They look at their cashiers like salesman whereas they should just be the dudes that ring up purchases.

Tell me about some sales if you want, but stop begging me to sign up for Power Up Rewards and pre-ordering the next Madden football game, hawking your protection plan, and trying to make me feel dumb for not buying the game used because it's $5 cheaper.

Then some of the douchebags they hire can go jump in a lake. Stop judging me for buying PS3 games in 2019 and stop geting an attitude with me when I catch you putting my used game in a generic case to save the actual case for display.

I think it’s in the company handbook that all Gamestop employees have to be as extremely annoying as possible.

If Microsoft's disc-less Xbox One is a hit, GameStop won't last much longer into the next generation.

I am pretty much ready for them to die. GameStop and Sony hindered game sharing evolution when the release of the X1 and PS4 happened.

Microsoft's plan was going to allow you to share games with Family and Friends with the DRM, but "muh physical disc" and "Always On" cries from those two.

I like having physical games, but digital games are growing on me a little. I just don't like having to have so much extra storage capacity for all the games.

There's a market for old school and nostalgia. Make a transition to that. In addition, they should sell the kind of stuff Think Geek does.

The storage is pretty cheap. I added 3TB for around $100 a couple of years ago.

If you have 2 xboxes, it is better to go digital. You can use both at the same time to play the same game. I do not have to buy a copy of the game for me and one for the kids.

PSN is stupidly slow. It doesn't matter what kind of internet you have.

Can’t wait til they go out of business and attempt to sell all their inventory for peanuts so they can feel what it’s like to get ripped off for once.
