Maybe like a shadows of Mordor type game?

Dunk and Aeg would be a good video game basis. Small enough world to be creative with, a beginning and end, plenty of quests to fold in.

To me, Westeros would be ideal for a Total War series game.

Combine this with the decisions and consequences of a game like fable.

Make your decisions actually matter. Flirting, lying, deception, have all of these things have consequences in relationships which ultimately have consequences in the political intrigue part of Westeros.

That plus a huge amount of armor and weapon customization. I would love to build up a badass stark warrior or a midget in heavy armor

As of April 2024, a new Game of Thrones MMO video game is in development, but it's not clear when it will be released. Redanian Intelligence says it could be 2025 or 2026, but it could take longer because game development can take a long time
Could? The dev cycle of a quality MMO has an absolute floor of 3 years. FWIW if you read into the Korean studio trying to make it, they will not be up to the task

Re OP and why we’re never getting a game
- GOT is first and foremost a political drama. It was great because of GRRM’s storytelling and characters. Action/combat was a side dish. If you want to make a game that overlaps with the series, you’re going to have to abandon what people like about it and pray you have an all-star development team capable of nailing combat, because you aren’t coming close to satisfying existing fans on narrative grounds
- Massive open world games are huge investments in time and money. I cannot imagine them ever considering a single player narrative-driven game, so add one more MMO in an ever-contracting industry of cookie cutter products that die out early
- Massive open world games have been a dying niche in general unless it’s a bonfire GOTY blockbuster like Elden Ring. They don’t stream well and they aren’t anywhere near as popular with Gen Z
- An original story in Westeros could be fun but it wouldn’t have anywhere near the allure unless George wrote it
- Half of GOT fans were women and a sizable majority were 35+. It’s just not a fanbase that overlapped heavily with playing lengthy open world games in the late 2010s/2020s

Ultimately it’s really cool lore, but that’s true about a lot of obscure IP that will never get games made after it either. It would be really cool to walk around Casterly Rock - you still doing that a month later if it’s not a great game? Probably not. I don’t think it’s a mistake a quality and well capitalized game was never attempted

What developer do you have faith in pulling this off?

If one could, there’s a more compelling case to mold such systems around new IP like a new Mass Effect or Dragon Age and not a TV show

To echo everyone.

Play Elden Ring the world was created by GRRM.

Back in June I had never played any Souls games, the very name Dark Souls just sounded like a game I would never touch.

However I gave Elden Ring a shot based on acclaim and I think sub consciously I didn’t have a bias against it because of the name.

Now I’m addicted beyond hope. I put 120 hours into Elden Ring and now I’ve gone back and out 30 hours into Dark Souls Remastered.

But back to your point if you haven’t played Elden Ring it’s exactly what you are looking for.

I’ve played through Elden Ring probably 6-7 times. No…Elden Ring is not what I am looking for

If GOT had hit it big during the MMORPG heydey I'm guessing it would have had an MMO made from it.

It's world and factions lend itself perfectly to an MMORPG.

But MMORPG's are a dead genre. WoW exists only based off past inertia and even it has contorted itself into something unrecognizable. It's basically a single player lobby game with optional co-op play and optional RPG elements.
