I mean...he could have simply sold the tokens.
I agree that crypto "doesn't exist," but it's stupid to pretend there aren't people out there who believe these things to have real value.

You seem to have a misunderstanding about how much I care about his tokens. I couldn't care less about his motivations or if he's making money off this. He posted a screenshot of something to do with tokens and crypto people are saying he burned his tokens. I don't know what any of that means but it seems pretty legit. Do your own research.

Someone on twitter said it would be the greatest marketing stunt in the world if they were completely behind this, and there was a side mission in the game where you hunt down the leaker for a bounty.
The fact that they've said nothing.... plausible?

I dunno. They've gotten subpoenas issued to Microsoft to try to unmask the hackers' IP addresses. I don't think many lawyers would be willing to file a false legal document for a marketing stunt.
Maybe they found one willing to do that, but that seems like a sanctional act by an attorney.
To be clear, that definitely seems like something Rockstar might be willing to do. I just find it hard to believe an attorney would face disbarment for falsely seeking the IP addresses of so many people. Plus, they would absolutely lose any lawsuit to come about from any innocent parties unmasked in this way after this eventually were to be revealed as a marketing stunt.

Nah man. It would be incredibly reckless of an attorney to seek an order unmasking thousands of people he/she knows are innocent without being sure his/her client isn't behind it.
At best, the attorney would need to immediately drop Rockstar/Take Two as a client the moment this deception came to light and be willing to testify, under oath, that he/she had no knowledge of this deception. We're talking about an illegal act here. At the very least, this is falsifying records.
The fact that this has gone to court makes it look less likely that Rockstar is behind it. On the other end, the guy burning his tokens makes it look more likely.

For sure, I just meant Rockstar (if genuinely behind it) would have no reason to tell an attorney that hey we're making this up, but file this paperwork. I don't know how much research can be expected of an attorney (on a corporate scale) if something is presented to them as time sensitive or urgent...I mean the attorney wouldn't say to Rockstar okay let me see all of your internal communication before I file a take down request.
I think we're on the same page here, I just worded it strangely
ETA of course if things came to light at any point then the attorney would have an ethical obligation to be transparent and report it
