Wait so when you said that it was new for rockstar to lock missions behind a paywall that was true? That wasn’t false? Or when you said that I’m a unicorn for not caring about having physical copies even though that vast majority of games purchased are digital.

Yes. All of this is true.

If this game meets expectations (IF), a $100 price will feel warranted.

What's making people worry about this is "what's everyone else going to start charging for their games", and I honestly don't see a release in our near future that will come close to GTA 6's scope..........again, if it lives up the build up. So I'm personally not too concerned this will start a trend.

I should've been more clear. You have to be trolling at this point...

I think some games will try to up their price but will get crushed. It is still kinda wild that games have been around $50ish my entire life. I remember Duck Tales being about $45ish back on the NES. That's around $100 today.

Genuine question so please be gentle. I don't use twitch but the link posted shows that this post isn't true.

Do people ignore that? Is it unreliable?

Generally it's true, but like with all things, you want to verify.

The blurb about the download size being close to 600gb was from a satire account but it ran like wildfire over social media. So with stuff like that, you shouldn't need a community note.

it might not be true, but it also didn't give a correct ratio either... so... take that for what it's worth.

At no point have I been trolling. Everything I've said in this thread has been reasonable and a completely normal reaction to what Rockstar is doing here, as is evidenced by the reaction by gamers not just here, but throughout the internet, as well as retailers who are refusing to carry the "physical version" that is nothing more than a box with cover art.

It is user generated, so sometimes is unreliable. You should always check the sources included with a Twitter note. In this case, the note is accurate. The originating post claiming PS5 presales of GTA outpacing XBox presales 6:1 was satire.

Well I mean you’ve played all the other GTA games I’m sure. Idk know what you’d be hesitant on with this one. They are all practically the same except this one will have better graphics lol.

You add in tax and the base game will be over $80. So there’s your answer right there lol

maybe, but if you look at console units sold, the PS5 has outsold Xbox 3 to 1 (90mil to 34 mil)...

if every one of those consoles will get GTA VI, that's still a frick-ton more copies for PS5. especially with Sony's marketing campaign for the game vs Microsoft's.

"GTA VI plays better on PS5 Pro."

then you got to factor in those that have both consoles. odds are that they get it for one console (the PS5) due to the marketing. if that's the case, you have to take one copy away from the Xbox. so, that 6 to 1 ratio isn't impossible or farfetched.

You are high if you think it won't

All the releases cleared out to not compete, but it also gave them the chance to watch and see.

AAA is all about trend chasing. You are about to see them chase the trend they have been praying for.

Will it be worth $100? Almost certainly.

But the shady way of going about it is skeevy, but genius

Make the players that spend less have to look at all the shops and shite they can't enter, until they finally give in and buy it.

But this is definitely the trend going forward for AAA titles, once they see how much Rockstar rakes in.

This is called normalization

He also touches on the weird behavior of people, like many in this thread, going to the mat to defend the skeevy monetization. They know it is skeevy, but their excitement for the game has overridden good sense.

But it might not be true.
Looks like it is true, partially

GTA Online 2 will not be shipped, or integrated into the base game. Online will be a separate purchase

Apparently that is why they started splitting the delivery of the 2 for GTA 5 in the new gen consoles

In order to normalize them as not bundled

But the $80 price tag was pure speculation. Everyone agrees it isn't going to be free, though. . .based on the crazy monetization in the base game

I can see Call of Duty doing it with specific maps and maybe weapons.
