Not sure if it is true but I read that this trailer only takes place in the first 5 hours of the game!
Is Kratos about to hammer some heads with Mjolnir?!

I generally agree with this but luckily for me after watching it last night...I probably only remember about 5 seconds of it.

I never played God of War (2018) because I didn't think I'd like the mechanic of having your son tag along the entire time.
Can you mostly ignore him or are you constantly working with him to solve puzzles?
Are there sections of the game where you have to protect him, and if his health gets too low, he dies?

You don't have to protect him at all, except in a cut scene or maybe a QTE. He's mainly a support mechanic, fires arrows, plain or elemental, to take off some health but to mainly stun enemies. Can also call something like spirit animals, like a wolf, to help as well (been a while since I played so can't remember the specifics).
It's a mechanic that really works and doesn't ever feel like an escort mission.

This was definitely my biggest fear, but everything you mentioned sounds pretty interesting. Have it in my library as part of the PS+ Collection, so might as well give it a try. Thanks for the feedback!

give it a try.
You owe it to yourself to play a top 5 game in the last 5 years. It was awesome.

i second this. Probably one of the best uses of a "buddy" system in games. never felt out of place or a hindrance.

If you watch the "Raising Kratos" doc, there's a part where they have play testers in and Barlog and the team are listening in on their discussions, and one of the testers was worried about Atreus becoming an "OP freezer". Barlog sits up, "OP freezer..........what the frick is that??"

So it felt, really, like I didn't have to pay attention to him and he was just kind of like a fairy sitting on my shoulder...
Love that!
Thanks for the link!

I need to finally carve out some time to watch this. I watched 5 minutes from where you started it via that link and I was kinda hooked.
Also, I agree with that guy in the video about Atreus being OP but in a fun way. I loved using his electric attacks. Welp, guess I'm going to do a replay of God of War now.

I'll say this for esq's benefit, wait until you've played the game before watching this. It's not HEAVY on spoilers but there are few things shown and talked about that hint at some late game content.

I don’t need a trailer to know I’m 100% buying this.

Watched a small bit just now.
"Is he trying to hit the kid? He is. He's good at killing!!!"

I made it about 20 seconds in with it muted. Shut it down. Even with that, it had the feeling of giving away too much going forward
