ByteDance has struck a deal to sell its gaming studio Moonton to Savvy Games Group, a Saudi gaming company owned by the country’s sovereign wealth fund, for more than US$6 billion, according to information from the two sides on Friday.

Moonton, known for the popular online battle title Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, recently signed an agreement to sell to Savvy, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Moonton CEO Zhang Yunfan said in an internal memo on Thursday seen by the South China Morning Post.

Crazy that a mobile game studio sold for more than Bungie ($3.6B.)

It’s actually not crazy. Have you seen the money the top mobile games print? They’re by far the most profitable form of gaming.

Its easy to spend more in a few hours on mobile than you spend on an entire play cycle of a AAA title, and there are people who spend 1000+ a day on mobile games. Your standard daily deals run $50-150, plus weekly and monthly, limited time deals, milestone deals, and event deals.

All packed into the format of team based work together to be the best while also highlighting individual leaderboards so people want to be the best.

It's casino gambling on steroids, the thrill of victory is just a micro away.

I despise this. I try to search for iOS time management games, and nothing is available for a one time purchase of 6.99 like it used to be (Airport Tycoon, Diner Dash, etc.) The entire iosgaming reddit thread from two years ago has seven whole responses.
