I've known of people getting killed hit with a softball. Fact

But B1rd is the only one I've known to break an arm on a relay throw and again hitting a ground ball.

I can understand splitting up platform GOTY but all those sub categories for each platform may be a bit much. I feel like the meat of these awards are the poster awards

That's a bit much, IMO. You don't want too many sub-categories and thin it out too much.

I said may need. The split from MMO is absolutely necessary though. I know you don't want to dilute your own awards so that they lose meaning, but you also have make sure that a variety of games get represented.

There aren't subcategories for each platform. Only platform specific awards are "Best (insert platform) Game". The rest are across all platforms.

ps3-4 and Xbox360-One

while this would make my life easier if I only had to do the Xbox related awards, there are 2 problems with splitting them up into their own threads.

a) you would need 4 total threads. Xbox. PS. PC. and General Gaming Board Awards (for the poster related awards) And I have a feeling Uncle Fred, the BEST ADMIN EVER, would not want 4 new stickied threads floating on this board. Plus we all know people start bitching if there thread gets bumped off of page, "I can't find my NCAA2008 2 Star MAC Teams Only Dynasty Thread" type bullshite.

b) well quite honestly.....it just wouldn't be as dramatic and epic if PS couldn't argue with xbox, xbox argue with ps, and pc argue with both.

There needs to be platform specific awards (Best PS3, Best PC, Best 3DS, etc.) and an award for every major genre across all platforms (best Action/Adventure, FPS, Strategy, Puzzle, etc). Of course, Game of the Year is the big one.

After those basics, things like best original soundtrack, best character, best indie, best new IP, Overrated/underrated, are categories that should be considered.

Looking back at last year, every console should have its own award. RPG/MMO definitely needs to be separated and RPG may need to be divided between JRPG and WRPG. I'd love to help out any way I can with nominations or whatever else.

I really liked the user awards though. I would keep as many of those as possible

i agree pretty much on all of this.
each platform will have it's own categories this year, but there will be a Game of the Year for all platforms to vote upon. (for the drama)

Best soundtrack, character, indie, new ip, over/underrated are good additions that will be added to all platform voting sections.

you'll have to help me with the RPG/MMO/JRPG/WRPG categories as I don't play those often and don't know what some of those acronyms are.

See, I don't know if you need to divide it up that much. I didn't mean for each platform to have genre specific awards, just each platform to have its own best game award rather than all 7 platforms pushed together. However, if you want each platform to have its own specific/genre specific awards, I can help out with that too.

I'd rather have it all in one thread; with every platform getting a little love and the awards can be a little more in-depth.

If you want some help on picking nominations, I'll be glad to give 5 or so for each category. How many were you looking for to be voted on?

Also, I think there should be an HM for every award.

RPG/MMO was one category last year. MMOs refer to games like Guild Wars or World of Warcraft that offer very different experiences from Skyrim and Final Fantasy. WRPG refers to Western RPG, this would be Mass Effect, Fallout 3, The Witcher, etc. JRPG refers to Japanese RPG, which would be Final Fantasy, Dark Souls, Pokemon, etc. They're separated because this genre can offers wildly different experiences and also due to the sheer volume of games in this category across consoles and handhelds.

i've always struggled with the nominations or no nominations decision.

i'd like to have nominations. it would make the end voting easier to count. but i'm not sure we could get people to participate in both. so, i've always just let it be a free for all, let everyone vote for whatever they wanted, and only listed the top 3-5 in the actual thread. Of course I always kept a total of everything in a spreadsheet on my own.

So, this is what I'm thinking of a basic breakdown of how this years would look, let me know if what you were thinking was different:

** Hoping people don't vote outside the platform they own. I mean we will call them out if they do and disregard their votes for that platform

thanks. still needs a few tweaks.

for example. PC folks don't really play sports games all that much, not really necessary. And i think most of the awards for Handheld/Phone/Tablet could be left out.

I think it would be cool to throw in some retro gaming categories. Just once though, or vote on best games from older gen consoles.
