Nail on the head. The last time I went to a GS the prices on used games were a joke. Why go to the store to get $7.54 of credit on five games and then turn around and buy a used game for $39.99 when it's the same price on the virtual stores?

I recently ordered the Mario 3D All-Stars game from Game Stop online for my 6 year old's upcoming birthday. With the purchase, they offered a half off deal to purchase a used game. I looked through the games and purchased Sonic Mania Plus. They have now sent me 2 copies of Sonic Mania, and both are the standard edition without the DLC (which is supposed to be included on the cartridge on the Switch version...I checked the virtual store and no downloading the DLC for free is not available). I've called multiple times, and they haven't a clue how to fix it, but I can clearly see that the issue is their UPC code is the same for both editions. They shouldn't be advertising that they have the "Plus" edition used if they don't have it at all. At this point I think I'm just going to trade back in both copies.

This is the first time I've had an issue like this with Game Stop, and it's a pretty big turn off for me. I'm not sure why Microsoft wants to get involved with them but I would be absolutely thrilled if they purchased the chain outright and overhauled it.

Gamestop was stupid. They should have pivoted YEARS ago to more of an online/digital sales model.

They had antiquated IT infrastructure and just started their cloud migration about 3-4 years ago.

I want Playstation to fail. Sony's nonsense with paying companies for third-party game exclusives is outrageous and needs to be put to an end. What they're doing is bad for all gamers. It's why I refuse to purchase one.

How is that any different than Microsoft just buying development studios outright?

Imagine wanting to limit a developers ability to cash in on a game.

Xbox fans want Sony to fail so bad it’s hilarious at this point. I don’t blame them though, it must be hard getting bent over every generation.

Not really, we just want PS people here to quit fellating Sony. It is kind of creepy and disturbing.

And how is different when there’s a thread anytime MS does anything, and the same 5 posters come in jerking each other off over the move?

That is cute, I think MSFT has $136B in just cash on hand

Actually Sony has $30B in the bank, so they got some cash stored.

i remember microsoft pioneering the "timed-exclusive" deals with Activision/CoD during the 360 days. they also were the only ones available that had ESPN live streaming for years before ESPN started supporting more devices and internet service providers.

Yea and? I was just making the point that MS isn't that much more of a giant than Sony. Sony is obviously more ingrained entertainment and hardware while MS is Tech

Nothing wrong with celebrating good moves by either with threads here. The difference is you PS figs are always up in the Xbox threads oozing with envy, it's sad more than anything really.

That sucks sorry to hear that. I used to work at GS and tbh you just need to go in and raise hell until they give you your game. Ask for a regional manager to talk to, they'll try to say their not available or they'll call back but they are. Sucks to be like that but they'll bend the knee if you do.

I have no problem with first party exclusives.

ETA: I also have no problem with timed exclusives. That's just throwing money away.

MSFT is on a completely different level than Sony. Sony market cap is $90B. Microsoft has enough cash on hand to buy Sony without getting creative technically.

Microsoft's market cap is over a trillion.

2020 is going to be painful for Sony when it is all over. I am not sure their business lines aligned with the Pandemic.

Editing to add - I own two Sony TVs and love them

Well jeez, that’s even more impressive that such a tiny company like Sony could manage to dominate the video game industry for so long.

Can yall please stop bringing this up as if it pertains to console discussion? They're not competitors in any other market besides gaming. Sony's gaming division has been far more successful than the Xbox division, so all those endless funds have clearly meant jack shite.

Sony is an entertainment company and MS is a tech company. Xbox isn't in the habit of pulling funds from the OS, cloud services, or enterprise software divisions to fund Xbox shite. Likewise, Playstation doesn't want to take funds from Sony Pictures, Music, Electronics, etc. Corporate finance just doesn't function that way (outside of smaller/newer divisions at tech companies that won't be profitable for the foreseeable future). MS doesn't want to use those all their COH to fund Xbox when it's a minuscule revenue source relative to the rest of their portfolio. I'd bet that the Xbox division financed the Zenimax acquisition alone, which it is perfectly capable of handling given their numbers.

If you wanted to bring up a company's gross financials for arguments for big corporations like this, you could just do that for any discussion. "MS could just buy Playstation and Nintendo", "Apple could just buy Samsung", "Intel could just buy AMD." It's silly. That's why you compare apples to apples, like Samsung phone sales vs iphones or Intel CPUs vs AMD CPUs.

Yall would be much better served by bringing up the ways that MS can leverage its other divisions (like cloud services) to give Xbox the edge. shite, Sony already pays MS for their cloud tech

now this is absolutely true. all their other divisions got their dicks knocked in the dirt and they will 100% rely on Playstation for the foreseeable future.

Cool, it is currently being phased out by a segment dominated by Microsoft and Amazon.

We will always have the memories though when Sony was King.
