GOAT. I haven't played since my kid was born. But when KSP 2 comes out, I'm taking vacation.

It technically took me 8+ years to finally "beat" Skyrim. I one shotted (as much as you possibly can) Alduin ha.

Just beat Skyrim this year!
First time I played it I got lost in all the various sidequests and I felt my adventures were aimless and a bit pointless.
Having a hint book helped. Not so much for the "hints" but for giving me an outline of the main task and then I could choose a few side quests that seem to fit with my goals or just seemed interesting.
Now I am about 1/2 through my second play through.

When people say “beat” do they mean 100% completion or just beating the main quests? Because if you’re just talking the main stuff, it really doesn’t take that long if you ignore most everything else

I think most people mean the main quest for open world games like Skyrim.
