I've read a good bit and it looks like to y'all are overblowing it again.
The friends list and whatever is a preliminary attempt to link your account to steam and only sends it when you link the account otherwise it does nothing. Other stuff is to allow support a creator to work. Other stuff is to allow the unreal engine to work.

Regardless how they are spinning it, Epic needs to frick off and not scan Steam folders.

I don't see that much wrong with it.
If anyone here is concerned, thinking of several ways to easily fix. If you have more than 1 drive.
1. Remove clients and directories (both Epic/Steam)
2. Epic launcher is just like any other wrapper, be it Steam or GoGs DOS wrapper. You might need to clear a few registries.
3. Install Epic launcher on boot drive.
4. On 2nd drive block access from the directory where you installed Epic launcher.
5. Install Steam client on 2nd drive.

They are not stupidity. I just can't stand when people overblow stuff and throw it on other people like Parmen does. I have gamed my entire life and have played on both sides of console and PC. I've come from before launchers were even a thing. It was never a big deal.
Epic is just a launcher that is trying to make money. I'm not even advocating FOR epic. It just keeps being brought up. The spyware thing is overblown. The exclusivity is overblown. The features of a launcher are overblown. Yet we have some posters in here that are acting like Hillary lost again.
I'm tired of the gaming board being infested with threads about this launcher crap. This is why nobody posts here and why it dies.

multiple people in that reddit thread ripped the OP for posting that stupid shite. I read through it all. Epic uses normal windows processes. scanning for steam existing, or any other programs being open, is perfectly normal. There is absolutely nothing nefarious about the epic launcher.
