Once you get the flow of switching characters, dodge/punisher evade, using ATB, and equipping the right materia, the battle system is GOAT.
So many ff mainline games have had almost great battle systems in the new gens, but this one finally nails it

Well no game deserves it better. You gonna do the thing you better do it right. They did. I think I’m surprised by that the most because I had little expectation for it. Really hit me when I took over Aerith.

I'm looking forward to how the mechanics for the other 5 playable characters work in the next one.
Red: I think there will be somewhat of a "bloodlust" mechanic as the more damage he does the more frenzied he gets.
Yuffie: Steal/Mug, Morph and Throw (good way to clear out excess inventory)
Cid: Vault (jump mechanic similar to Kain from FF4) and, later in the game, calling in CAS from the Highwind.
Vincent: His limits would basically turn him into a Summon. There could be a sanity gauge, where the more damage he takes in succession the more you lose control of him.
Cait Sith: Not a damn clue. Maybe reintroduce the dice mechanic or use his mog as a weapon?

Man this game takes a nosedive in the middle chapters. Everything feels twice as long as it needs to be and it just feels padded and poorly paced. The sewers and train graveyard were AWFUL. Honeymoon period is over for me
Hope the ship gets back on course in these last 4 chapters

I turned my brain off and listened to podcast during those parts. If you think that part dragged you're gonna get super annoyed later on
I can see why they padded this game tho. Even with all the filler, Compared to other modern AAA rpg games, this game is pretty short

frick, that's depressing. they just create this huge sense of urgency and then drag you through these boring, uninteresting sections that are way too long.
get to train graveyard. "Ok, cool, I remember this from OG FFVII." seems fun, then as it starts to get old, you get to the warehouse. go through the warehouse and get out "Ok great, now we're reaching one of the pivotal moments of this game."
nah fam, go through another train yard
get through the pivotal moment (which also took way too long) and enjoy a good boss fight along the way. "ok, train is back on the tracks"
nah bruh, more forced walking sections, context-sensitive transitions, etc. then we have to run all the way back to Sector 5. Get there for 5 seconds, oh now we have to go back to Sector 7. OK. oh yeah, you get to retread those SAME overlong tunnels we went through with Aerith.
they padded the frick out of this game man. I'm a trophy guy and thought for sure I was gonna get the platinum for this, but I just don't think I can bear playing through these shitty chapters again. Would've much preferred a tighter, more focused experience, which leads to more replayability
Really hope the assault on Shinra HQ is as awesome as I'm imagining it to be.

Technically, 7 takes place thousands of years after X-2. The Al-Bhed (Shin-ra) bled Spira dry, then went to the current world. The Summoners (Yuna's descendents) became the Cetra.

Won’t be the last time you have to retread through a dungeon
You’re also Not done with the filler yet

Well the honey bee inn cross dressing part was especially gay. Like RuPaul was the consultant for it kinda gay. Unnecessarily extra gay.

LINK
quote:
Shinra is a boy who supports the Gullwings, the group which the main protagonist, Yuna, belongs to. He carries a name that gives him an association to the Shin-Ra Company, and he is researching a method that could utilize the energy of 'the life force that flows through our planet'. The results of this cannot be seen in FFX-2, but maybe one day his descendants will establish a 'company that supplies the energy of the planet'?
Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega, translated by Ryu Kaze/Ryu Sinclair
quote:
After quitting the Gullwings, Shinra received enormous financial support from Rin, and began trying to use Vegnagun to siphon Mako Energy from the Farplane. But, he is unable to complete the system for utilizing this energy in his generation, and in the future, when traveling to distant planets becomes possible, the Shin-Ra Company is founded on another world, or something like that....... That would happen about 1000 years after this story, I think.

Im still early (like 15 hours in) but from everything I've read it will not get back on course
and I dont even care, I def will come back to say what I feel about the middle to end, but I'm a huge FFXIII, XV, and KH fan so i'm pretty sure I'll be fine.
And about the re-treading, good thing I just played Fallen Order and it got me warmed up for all the backracking

That’s exactly what it reminded me of. Not just backtracking, but painful, linear backtracking

You’re leaving out an important bit
quote:
In an interview with a French Final Fantasy website Finaland Nojima commented on the link thusly: "This story is a bit of a joke. When we created FFX-2, we wanted to create something, a totally new world. Except that when I created it, I realized that it looked a lot like FFVII... But without realizing it. Afterwards, when it was officially said in Ultimania, it took a completely gigantic proportion when it was just an anecdote."[4]

The robot arm section was very tedious

Also frick the hell house, that took a while
Posted on 4/18/20 at 12:38 pm to Mystictiger
Hell house might be my favorite fight in the game

I’m not great at the strategy in fights and it took longer because its shield was up non stop.
Posted on 4/18/20 at 1:00 pm to Mystictiger
I just got to Chapter 12, and the story has dragged a bit. I’m really loving it though. I know it’s about to get intense, and these fights are really starting to challenge me.
