About to make the trek to the final battle. Finished all side quests, chronoliths, and trophies

This game would've been so much better as a 20hr linear experience with 2-3 hubs to explore for some side quests. So much padding that killed the pacing. Infuriating to have an epic, truly next-gen boss fight and then have to go get parts for Mid's engine for 2 hours right after. Come on

There are some really good side quests, especially towards the end. Should've just had 15-20 of those all focused around the main crew.

Yep

And then imagine td01269 sitting there and playing the full game 3 times in the first week of its release

100% agree - game was too long with too many damn sidequests. Keep the good ones and make it more linear and it's much better. Not exactly the same kind of game, but I felt like Nier Automata does everything better than FF16 is trying to do besides the story (cannot compare the two games' stories). Also, cannot stand how there wasn't a sprint option, and while Clive sprints after a few seconds of jogging, that only works outside of towns which is stupid. Could've had a toggle like FF15 did.

I’m slacking hard. Still just on the quest where you go back to Rosalith after the 5 year jump. Gf moving in has put my gaming time in shambles

finally finished last night. as expected, the final sequence seemed to go on and on and lasted for what felt like 45 minutes. Glad I didn't try to power through that Sunday night at 2 AM. Also finished the hunts (only had 2 S hunts that I needed to find) and then did 1 of the chronoliths just to get that trophy.

Great story, great music, awesome visuals. The game really made me care about a lot of the characters. My favorite part of the game was probably the hunts...those A and S fights were very challenging but not overly so...I think a couple of the S hunts killed me once but I knew what to do differently to win the next time.

My two biggest gripes were:
1) the overly cinematic boss fights...takes away from the feeling accomplishment to me. I don't mind a lot of cut scenes when games are heavy on story. I think they are necessary a lot of the time. But if you are going to have a lot of cutscenes, don't let that bleed into boss fights.

2) 75% of the side quests were arse. I guess you could argue that their purpose was to encourage more exploration, but give me something more exciting to do than running to a spot to pick up flowers and return back. Some of the side quests were very interesting and really helped paint a picture of the world and its people, but most of it was shite.

Yep. Nothing is really sticking with me about this game either. A very forgettable game to me. Another new FF that I will never go back to play.

Same. Story and music were good and the characters were interesting, but the gameplay was boring to me after a while. Repetition at its worst IMO.

It's crazy how different the 1st 2 hours were (the demo if you played it). I was thinking it'd be like that for the whole game. Sorely disappointed we didn't get more of that type of storytelling

Dion is the best character overall. Very well written and acted

I really liked the Thanos/Channing Tatum looking guy Kupka as well. I found that my interest level in the story diminished after defeating him.

beat barnubus last night and holy sheet the number of side quests that popped up. frick me. im going to do em but im really ready for this game to end.

its a visually lovely game, good music (not great). it will probably be on the lower end of the FF ive played. Story and characters are just too meh and forgettable. Gameplay is getting very boring at this point. its rinsing and repeating eikon moves in-between mashing attack.

If you’re nice to him, you might get some tickets and a copy of Elder Scrolls 6

The good news is that those side quests all have pretty good stories attached to them.

I beat it a little while ago. Did every side quest, hunt, and chronolith. I really did love the game, but I do agree that the game lead itself to pacing problems. While I don't think the slower parts had no purpose, they just drug you down from great fights and experiences to more mundane stuff.
