Seriously though, i met this guy a few weeks ago that works for Wal-Mart home office up here in the electronics division and he was telling us it's a constant nightmare trying to decide what get's facetime on the shelfs, b/c it changes so quick and what their demographic is. you put things to high end out and they won't sell, but you put cheap stuff out and you get some low end customers but your run off legit tech people, it's a hard balance according to him, with best buy you can try and just stock the best stuff.

He's 100% correct, the marketing staff at Walmart has one of the hardest jobs in the nation.. on one hand you have your normal demographic, but on the other hand you don't want to stick with your current demographic, because you always want to expand, the problem is that Walmart has kinda gotten to the top, and probably has nowhere to go but down.

P.S: I work for a company that had actually been in the black from 1886 to 1982, grown and flourished for almost 100 years.. sometime around 1982 something changed and we began to lose our customer base in droves.. 30 years later, we have had 30 straight years of red books. I currently do marketing for this company.. it's not easy, but in great news, we are about to have our first black books in 30 years! (I came to work here 8 months ago, I do marketing for a living FWIW)

yeah i really don't know anything about any of it but i do know tech people are usually first adapters and a big chain has trouble keeping up for obvious reasons. Wal-Mart is an amazing machine when you think about it to even do what they do , they have thousands of stores. and it's probably a year lead time to get anything in them.

The last time I consulted someone in getting some of their items at Walmart.. it was something like a 5 years period, with it taking 2 1/2 years on average to get the items in store.

The craziest thing is how the contracts are written.. it almost makes Walmart liable for so little it's insane. With the way their items have a turn around, even after 2 1/2 years of trying to get into a Walmart you can be off the shelves in 2 months and never hear from them again.. it's just insane.

yeah i've sold them stuff, it's risky deal, and this whole area up here revolves around people trying to get a product into Wal-Mart, i've seen people go from ballin to broke really quick relying on Wal-Mart. You got to really know what your doing, it's a high stakes game.

I know a guy that almost lost his arse after he started selling fishing lures in wal-mart. They were selling out way faster than they all expected and he had a tough time keeping production up. All worked out in the end though.

Nothing will for them. With PC stuff you have to have a selection. Having ~12 middle-of-the-road video cards by 2 different manufacturers won't cut it. On top of that, people buying these items know what they're doing so the little "BB exclusive model number" for $40 more won't cut it.

That's why MicroCenter and Fry's do so well. They have the selection AND the prices. Without the selection, BB has to make up for volume with price, which again, won't cut it with the PC demographic. They know their stuff. They will save that $40, get EXACTLY what they want, and wait a day or two. It isn't like computer parts have been readily available in these stores forever either...most PC users are used to ordering online.

I just don't know that Fry's could survive here due to not a large enough population.

I could keep a Fry's or Microcenter open by myself in Baton Rouge.

Almost 100% of Best Buy's displays are related to vendor contracts. Microsoft might pay $100,000 to a certain BB location to have a product of theirs like a surface tablet in a certain spot.

BB as a whole is failing because their business model is severely flawed from the ground up. People don't like getting bothered when they are shopping. I can't walk into a Best Buy without having to tell people I don't need help which is why I don't shop there, but I don't blame the employees because that is how they are trained.

If someone wants help, let them ask for it.

Best Buy also opened way too many stores in certain cities earlier in the millennium because they wanted to shut down local competition in certain cities. It came back to bite them in the arse in the long run.

Best buy actually changed their return policy from 30 days to 15 days, and they called it a benefit to their customers.

What the fricking frick man

PC gamers seem to overcompensate for something. I cant quite put my finger on it but it stikes me as a desperate need for affirmation of their gaming medium by their peers.

We get it PC is surging. Huuzaaaah. Now what?

Console gamers make a bigger deal out of it than we do. It's just fun to watch you stomp your feet.

Because we have been hearing about the "death of PC gaming" for 10 years.

Who the fricks plays outside as an adult? Maybe if you were a pedo. As a grown man I love to play video games and then just go fishing, swimming, etc outside. I consider it luxury or fun ...not child's play.
