My favorite way to play. I wish we'd get more dlc info. I want to run back through a new game. Strength, of course

I enjoy being a strength that can also tank. I loved helping people beat bosses by tanking until I got over leveled.

So I have been playing Elden ring for the last month or 2 and been booked. First time I’ve ever played a game like this. Based off the last few posts in this thread…are the dark souls games pretty similar? Should I try them out after ER? Or do another ER play through?

It is 10000% the worst in the entire FromSoft catalogue, but I still think it’s worth playing for a few of the great bosses and future references to it in the series. Makes you appreciate the others more and how deft Miyazaki’s touch is

So I downloaded dark souls remastered. This feels like I’m playing on windows 98 after coming from Elden ring

I felt the same about DS3, but they’re totally worth it

One day I was lurking on these boards and Carson kept promoting Bloodborne. It sounded interesting (HP Lovecraft, anybody?) but legitimately no one in my circle of gamer friends played these Dark Soul type games. I think it was finally free on PS-Plus (?) so I played it. Wow! I went Bloodborne, Dark Souls Remastered, Sekiro (Day 1 buy), and Elden Ring (Day 1 buy). I emphasize day 1 buys because I do not normally do those.

I could not believe how much these games recaptured the feeling of gaming when I was younger. Cutthroat but (IMO) fair difficulty that felt so rewarding to conquer. It was similar to playing Punch-out but as an insane adventure game. I had to talk to other's online about how to even play the fuggin game. This would normally be something you did at recess or if someone's older brother figured it out! ha! It was a blast from the past.

All that being said, I didn't mind the visuals from Dark Souls because the exploration and rewarding feelings were just too strong.

TL;DR - Let the board know how it goes because that might motivate me to play Dark souls 2 and 3 finally.

What's great is I know I do not have to play Dark Souls 2 before I play Darks Souls 3.

Again, harkening back to the old NES games. Do you need to play Mario 1 and 2 on the NES before 3? No, but after 3 you should go back and check 1-2 out.

from story/continuity perspective you are absolutely right. I ended up doing the following:

Demons Souls remake
Elden Ring
DS1
DS2
DS3

I like that I did the DS games in order because they made improvements with each iteration and if I had done 3 before 1 or 2 I don't think I would have enjoyed either of those games as much as I did. Just a personal preference though.

I could see that. Especially going from Elden Ring to DS1.

About to fight the Four Kings. It’s been a lot slower moving than DS3, but it’s a damn good game. Finally got my Zwei up to +15 for this fight. I feel like I have been mowing down bosses easier than the enemies to get to them a lot of times.

Look, Dark Souls 2 catches a lot of shite from fans, but please do not let that make you think that it is in any way a bad game.

It's the worst Soulsborne game, which still puts it head and shoulders above 99% of the rest of the games out there.

I LOVED Dark Souls 2 once I finally gave it a chance. The cool mechanics like power-stancing and Bonfire Aesthetics made it really interesting. The boss design is still top notch, and having the Pursuer drop in from time to time to wreck your shite was fun.

I also really liked the story. It gets away from Lordran, but does it really? I view it as the world in DS2 is just one version of Lordran throughout the ages.

Just play it. It's a beautiful game and the only thing I reallllly hated about it was that your roll iframes were tied to your...dex? or some other stat? I can't remember, but it was a stupid fricking mechanic. But not game-breaking.

As for Dark Souls 3 - holy fricking shite yes please go play it right now it's better than Elden Ring. Tied with Bloodborne for my favorite and most replayed FS game.

You on console or PC?

If you're on PC then head over to Nexus Mods and get the 4K Remaster mod for DS: Remastered. Worth.

Just beat all of DS1, and on to DS2. So far, MAYBE even over Elden Ring (maybe), DS3 might be my favorite. They’re neck and neck.
