The notion that VI has 10m is pretty insane. The original release sold around 2m WW

I should have removed it, I meant to remove all before 7. As 7 is when the series became what it is.

Just a copy and pace from VG. Seems to be just an error. They have it as 3 million on SNES.
Sorry about that.

The best comparison to me would be 13 to 15.
Square went all in with the marketing for 15.
Both flawed games and both successful.
With 15 doing better mainly because of it's huge 5 million launch day. FF 15 doesn't seem like the type of game that will continue to sell as a classic but I may be wrong.
Was that because of the marketing and hype around the game or because of the change in combat style?
It is my opinion that turn based FF will still sell just as good as action. People just want a good game.

But anyways sales had nothing to do with my original comment. Which is why I was asking, why bring it up? I was told turn based is outdated and not fun, yet games continue to use turn based and continue to be successful critically. Successful commercially as well since we are talking about it now.

No, I don't think the change in combat style affected the sales of FFXV all that much, but I think you did have some people check it out because it was so unlike a traditional FF game. People were saying to try it out if you don't like FF.

Lots of good little nostalgia touches in the game for people who have played the other DQ games.

The use of NPC costumes and the music and stuff like that.

Just as one simple example, in DQ4 there is a an arena fighting competition subplot. In DQ11 there is an arena fighting subplot, and the battle music during those fights is the battle music from DQ4.

My opinion is it was the hype and marketing. VS/15 had been in development for so long. Take into account the movie, 2 demos, mobile game, "stand by me" cover, commercials everywhere. They really went all out.

Dang, how'd you get it early? Mine was shipped to my work and I wasn't in today...so, I'll have to try it out tomorrow.

I will check out some of your stream though, thanks for posting.

Living in Birmingham, we're real close to two major distribution centers. and our small town post office will try to deliver everything if it comes in same day regardless of time. Just got lucky by them shipping early enough before Labor Day.

I also started clipping out some of the boss fights. Most as an fun time waster for myself.

I read his review, but the video is excellent as well. This is what happens when you get someone to review something that they know just as much as any hardcore fan. So much great detail.

I'm finally getting around to watching your streams. I think I'm roughly to where your third video picks up...we have followed similar paths so far (but, it is pretty dang linear from what I can tell). This game is thus far!!!!!!

I feel like this game is what I've been looking for in a JRPG for a long time now. This is like a classic SNES or PSX JRPG made on a modern AAA budget.

The fact that they just don't really make these games anymore (though I would include the Tales franchise in a list of traditional JRPGS) I hope helps Dragon Quest carve out a nice niche for itself.

After you beat the game, do you unlock DQ1 for PS4 like the japanese version?

Thanks for watching. I don't really stream much, but I do enjoy looking back on it.

That is true about lineaity, but you unlock the ship about 10 hours in. That allows you to branch out a little bit. I didn't do too much off the beaten path. I just explored one of the tiny islands.

I'm not too sure.

Outside of something like Persona, I tend to play these games much faster than the norm. But dang, it sure took you longer than I to get that far.

I'm convinced that I'll never play everything that I want to, in this lifetime

I almost picked this up at the Toys R Us "Clearance", but decided not to. I started 3 or 4 on the PS2 a while back, never made it very far though...

I'm about 22 hours in and feel like I'm just coming into the meat of the main story. It's a long game, but it's also pretty easy going and doesn't demand a lot from you.

If you stick exclusively to the main story without a lot of side stuff looks like people can do it in about 40-50 hours.

If you want to explore and do side stuffs and do everything in the game you can easily put in 100.

I'm at about 60 hours and maybe 80% done with the main story, been pretty thorough in my exploration and side stuff.

A ton of that time is reading text and watching cut scenes. If someone were to skip over a lot of that stuff could save a ton of time, but in an RPG that seems sort of silly to do on a single playthrough.

I am about 20 hours in and my one complaint so far is that the cutscene dialogue doesn't play automatically. I hate having to hit the X button to move to hear the next bit of dialogue. It's a minor thing but it drives me crazy.

The Japanese version doesn't have voice acting, so that's probably why.
