In a game I paid $60 for? Damn right I should be able to get every single item.
You're becoming complacent with the bullshite EA is trying to do. They've changed the whole model of games and you just accept it.

One of the reasons I rarely buy new video games now. I figure I'll pop in my PS2 version of SW battlefront and play that for a few days.

Patently false. What features in the original Legend of Zelda were not available the first time you boot the game up?

For the Nes? Hmm. That's a pretty good one but that game came out how long ago? Basically since 2000 stuff has started to be out behind unlock walls

Also not true. I mentioned I was going to play SW Battle front for PS2. It came out post 2000 and there nothing you have to pay for in there. I can't think of many if any games i have on ps2 or even ps3 that have this and for the ones that do it's not anywhere NEAR what it is for a game like this. It's all ancillary stuff that doesn't really impact the core experience. It's stuff like the 49ers throwback uniforms for Madden and stuff like that.
You are completely out of your depth.

I'm not going back and reading everything in this thread, but what is your response to those who mention that games have been $60 for a long time, and $60 in 2017 isn't cutting it anymore?

Then just charge $80 for the game and be done with it. Making it a huge chore to unlock basic characters + making it easy for mouthbreathers to superpower their guys via Mom's credit card just kills the whole experience.

Do away with all progression?
Posted on 11/15/17 at 8:13 am to Draconian Sanctions
Its not a huge chore. Its literally 10 hours or less for all the characters. If you want to bitch about the boxes go ahead. Thats basically the only thing to have an arguement about and the reason for the boxes is so they dont have to charge for a Season Pass and can give out the 4 or so DLCs for free. If my options were Lootboxes are in the game but free season pass or 40$ season pass. Give me the lootboxes. Im not going to run into enough whales that the boxes are going to cause me that much shite.

There is a grand total of 324 cards. Upgrading these will require a total of 155,520 crafting parts. This requires opening a grand total of 3,111 loot crates which will require 4,528 hours of gameplay.
And Im out. I wouldn't really care to unlock all of the cards and upgrade them to full but to require 4528 hrs for somebody who does is too much. Make it require an 8th of that. Or Less. I should be done unlocking everything in the game by hour number 200. And just putting there because everybody is going to go find it anyways it works out to around 2100$ if you want to use transactions to get there a bit faster

I say the cost to produce a game is offset by supply and demand. The more people buy your product, the cheaper the cost per unit. Plus, I see Nintendo pumping out their Big Three (Zelda, Mario, Pokemon) without packing them full of fees like they’re a cell phone company.
Let’s not act like EA and Activision would be in the poors without gambling boxes and micro transactions. DLCs and Season Passes along with the sale of the game itself brings in piles and piles of cash. Activision literally shits in a box, writes ‘Call of Doody’ on it, and is almost guaranteed to be in the top 50 of all-time game sales. Look it up. You think those annual games cost that much to churn out?
How much fricking money do they need?

Higher demand today with DLC. They aren't creating this engine from scratch . They aren't plotting out a whole 100hr story.
This is BS for a game that is basically just multiplayer. Yes, server cost. But they can get that with monthly NON-REQUIRED cosmetic items. Hats hats hats! =)

You are quite literally talking out of your arse here.
Games cost a lot of money and a lot of time to make, and there's no guarantee on the return. That's why it's rare when you see a developer take a risk on new IP or ideas because developing that takes even longer, and if your game tanks, that could mean the end of your studio.
Big studios are big studios for a reason: they don't take a lot or risks and do what they can to bring in the biggest return.

I agree but that is because I dont really take Battlefront multiplayer gaming that seriously. I just like playing in the Star Wars playground. That being said I dont like the trend towards loot boxes giving players unfair advantage and I understand those pissed about it.

They took a real big risk on I and II, right?

Apparently these don't have a long shelf life on PC, so I think I am just going to sit this one out.

Shame. Game looks fun watching some streams. I guess it's like COD series on PC. Outside of BF3/BF4 most of these big publisher shooter releases don't last long in the PC community
