quote:26 here and I've kinda gone the opposite. I used to eat up the competitive side of gaming but I've recently relaxed more into games with a slower or more relaxing pace. I still get my competitive kicks with Rocket League, but if I'm playing something it's probably along the lines of Stardew Valley or Breath of the Wild.
I'm in my early 30s and my gaming love has changed. I really can only play online against other users. I can't play single player offline games. It's just boring now.

I'm 28, I'm more selective of my games for the most part. I used to try new genres but I mainly stick to what I like now

It's part of becoming old(er). I'm in my 40s and my tastes changed. That, and things like wife, kids, business and whatnot.
I've found it almost impossible to enjoy the type of games I grew up with. Platformers like Mario...boring to me. Mindless shooters--which I used to have throwaway fun with--double boring. Sports games (I used to be a Madden/NCAA every year player), I don't honestly recall the last one I bothered to play.
As far as hardware, I don't care anymore. I used to be like some of the PC dudes here talking about the latest graphics cards, memory and mobos. But it's reached a point of who gives a shite? The days of needing to upgrade to play the latest games are just about over. Plus, PC-only titles aren't particularly GPU/CPU intensive. Those multi-plat games that need a lot of juice...I just play it on a console.
They're few and far between, but give me a good story...or at least enjoyable characters, and I'll play it. TLOU, Uncharted, Tomb Raider reboot, Horizon, Neir, the Yakuza and Metal Gear series, etc. I can play those at my leisure and the wife/kids will watch & help. I bought Mario Odyssey when it came out. Boring...never bothered to finish it and no one in the house cared to play. It's not 1989 anymore. But a game with good characters & narrative, we enjoy talking about it.

I’m about to be 38, and I still enjoy gaming, but my variety of games I like has diminished over the years.
All the way up until my early 20’s I used to try and play every possible game I could. That was during the days of Blockbuster and GameFly so being able to try different games before purchase was a lot easier.
Now I like Madden and shooters and that’s pretty much it. I do occasionally play games like Assassins Creed or GTA though. My wife recently got Crash Bandacoot for my kids Xbox and I tried it cause I used to love that game, but it just wasn’t the same as it used to be.

I look at them as a way to burn time, activate my imagination, get myself out of the real world for a little bit, and see a lot of games as a playable movie experience
So yea, enjoyable for those reasons. But can grow tired of them quick when I think about all the more productive stuff I could be doing.
this is pretty much where i'm at. i don't have near the gaming time anymore because of wife and kid but they're a nice way to unwind for a few hours after work and kid goes to bed

Still play NCAA football some, and Madden. NBA 2K during basketball and I enjoy the show. So sports games, but they do burn out and I don’t nearly play like I used to. I’d rather watch something on tv most of the time or do something productive

I just am not into SciFi or fantasy nor am I overly infatuated with shooters, or RPGs, so that kinda knocks out like 80% of games that come out right now.
I really enjoy realistic games like What Rockstar puts out, the last of Us, or First-Party Nintendo.

28 and no longer enjoy it. I want to play but I'm fatigued pretty quickly.
I think it's a psychological issue. Certain moods, amount time in day, and life circumstances play a huge role.

43 and still love games just as much as ever. Post undergrad I've always been more of a single player game person, and never been into shooters, so the changes with jobs and whatnot didn't really effect my gaming too much.

I am 29 and I am the exact opposite. I can only play single player story games now. Not enough friends that like the same games to get into multi, also I get super pissed I can’t devote the time to the game to kick everyone’s arse at it. Now I have resorted to playing single player campaigns on the normal setting haha, no more hours grinding through legendary on Library or anything like that.
However, when NCAA makes a comeback I am sure that all my friends and I will be getting into that.

In 2010 after about 3 years of not playing anything, I though I was done...then SC2 came out and kicked me back into gear!

I'm 38 and still enjoy it. Although wife, kids, and job tends to get in the way alot. I usually play on the weekends after kids go to sleep. Wife is cool with it.
I need my football game, I picked up Madden 18 a few months ago, and I have no intention to buy future editions. Back in the day I would pick up NCAA the first day it came out.
I used to love RPGs. But I got burned out on them mostly because of how slow paced they are. The only RPG I play is Dark Souls. I've been enjoying fast paced shooters like Halo and Gears of War. I used to hate those games, but I love playing them now. Maybe it's because I don't have the time to put into gaming much anymore.

No. I hate it most of the time. Wish I could claim the addiction on my VA benefits since I never rly played games before.

I'm 30 now and just had a kid. My time for gaming has decreased significantly, but I still enjoy it. I do however enjoy online with people on the TD discord over single player. If I do play single player, it's something indie like SDV or Celeste.

This is me to a "T". Most of the guys I know spend their time hunting,fishing,golf...etc, they look at me weird when I tell them I played video games all weekend.

I just hit 28 and I still have lots of fun playing. I do notice that it has be certain type of games. I can find a very high quality game but it can just leave me bored. Why not take a break until you feel a strong tug to go back?

I prefer single player games nowadays. God of War has been my latest craze and I can't put it down.

Just turned 40 and I'm right there with you.
Like others have said, the type of games I play has changed though.
Through high school it was console games. College it was competitive FPS mostly. I was in multiple leagues for Day of Defeat and CounterStrike.
Used to really be in to MMOs, but for the past five years it's mainly just Single Player RPGs that I can take my time with. I'm just too busy otherwise.
Finally got around to finishing DA:O and next up is a Skyrim replay after I mod the shite out of it.

Still love gaming just don't have enough time for it like I used to. Honestly my problem now is buying too much shite and never getting around to play what I bought. Luckily still not married and no kid, I'm sure that will be another dent in my playtime.

Getting a full time job cut down on my video gaming majorly after college. Still enjoy it, just don't have the time or mental energy nearly as often.
NCAA series and single player games like Cities Skylines and the Batman Arkham Series are my thing. Never was a big multiplayer guy, although I do enjoy PUBG occasionally.
