I hate H. That shtt grabs your balls and doesn't let go.

72hrs of hell coming off. H and meth are 2 drugs which make me sick just talking about the drug.

Edt: Video game addiction being compared to drug addiction always makes me laugh. Getting clean years ago is the hardest thing I have done. I'm actually proud of it. Getting clean takes everything from you both mentally and physically.

Video game addiction is real but its laughable.

I figured mainly because the average OT falls into two camps: older Millennial or ancient Gen X/baby boomer type, no significant in-between.

Agree.

But I get the same out look on video games in the wild.

This is outside of BR but was in Knoxville for training 2months ago and got laughed at over the fact I enjoyed Pokemon Go when it first launched.

My main point about was about how it got the SO and I to explore on foot more. At the time I just moved to Corpus and was in Houston every week. It was a fun way to explore and not be aimless. They didn't get it.

The group of fools couldn't understand that it wasn't even about Pokemon or the game. Their minds had already been made up that it was childish.

It also helps to know your audience. Continuing to bring up video games with people who have no desire or understanding of the medium is a losing proposition.

Life is much easier when you try to find common ground instead of getting into a huff about how Pokémon isn’t mainstream enough.

I’m saying any addictive behavior. Could be drug use, gambling, alcohol, sex, etc.

I’ve known a number of people who flunked out of school because they would stay up all night playing online games and then ditch class, which became a cycle in which they couldn’t catch up and either dropped out to avoid failing or actually failed.

Moderated gaming is OK. Extreme gaming to the point where you live your life around making raids for WOW clans means you are seriously fricked.

Consuming anything in large amounts is not beneficial.

Just don't think it's in the same realm as drug addiction and other addictions.

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but people who exhibit such little self control were doomed for failure no matter what their hobby was.

Absolutely.

I don't even speak of video games to others because of this fact. Plus why would I talk about it to normies? I hunt, fish, love drugs, do steroids and love my wood shop. Many other topics to connect with people. I'm just getting into cycling and in the middle of training my Brittany. Being interested and involved in so many different hobbies actually let's excel in my profession. Helps me connect with different personalities to provide really tailored solutions.

My example about Pokemon Go came up in the conversation because we had ppl on the team who never been to Tennessee etc. So we got on the topic of just walking and exploring.

Edt: I get in a "huff" over ignorance. Once you shut down listening to things you might have previously disagreed with you don't grow. Nothing is worse than the 40yr old who hasn't grown as a person over his/her life.

I’m 28 and do not consider it childish at all. Imo it’s a hobby just like anything else people do in their spare time.

I will say I dated a girl for several years and she didn’t ever or even try to understand why I enjoyed Trials in Destiny or MLB the Show Diamond Dynasty so much. There were times where I would legit log an 18 hour session sometimes and she thought it was insane.

Eventually I I tried to explain to her that it’s me just being competitive and the fact that I am/was decent at what I was playing. She didn’t believe my world ranking on MLB the show until I showed her and she got off my back about it after that and somewhat understood.

Even my parents thought it was weird how much I played the Show, but my parents had no clue you could play other people and that it was remotely competitive.

If I sucked arse at every H2H game I definitely don’t think I would play much at all.

No consoles since Xbox 360, but have PC games since 1998 ish?

no fricks about ones opinion, but it's my source of entertainment. I don't really give a frick about movies...TV etc.

Good advice that applies to any topic.

Some people hate sports and it's pointless to try to talk sports with them. Some people don't follow the music scene at all (myself included int hat group) so trying to discuss good new bands with me wouldn't really accomplish anything.

Those two things are about as 'mainstream' as you can get but there are still people who aren't into them.

Absolutely not, no.

It's just a time wasting activity. I'd say it's more beneficial to you than watching TV for hours on end like most people do every night.

It can certainly be more engaging than many tv shows. Gaming can engage your reflexes and your ability to solve puzzles/problems. But those benefits are probably a little overblown, especially as gaming becomes more streamlined.

People that say playing video games is childish then go watch an entire season of Scrubs for the 5th time make me laugh.

Watching TV / movies and playing games are literally the same category: Entertainment. Empty calories. Fun, not great for you, not really productive, but damn near everyone does it.

It is wayyyy better than hanging at a bar after work, better for your family since you aren't out on the golf course for 6 hours or hunting for the weekend away or hammered somewhere (well most of the time anyway, I drink and game a lot too), and can be around for stuff when you take breaks.

My wife hates it, but she understands it is one of the lesser of all possible vices.
