Wait, they dumped onslaught? Really?
quote:There are no seasonal activities. You run the campaign. Multiple times on multiple difficulties while also replaying old content multiple times on multiple difficulties to make your power go up so you can get higher tiered armor that has ancillary stats in things you don't care about while doing the same for weapons when the only difference between tiers is more enhanced perks while the world tiers lock your power that you grinded so hard to get at least 50 below the enemies...because the only way to progress is through the curated, rotating activities in the Portal. Raids and dungeons are pointless now because their loot hasn't been brought into the new tier system. No, this is not satire. This is the game now.
What’s left to do now? Strikes? PVP? And whatever goofy seasonal activity they cobbled together this time?

Well…I guess Destiny 2 finally died

Yes it’s bad. Like I said, if someone like me is already feeling like checking out, there is a problem. I’ve been as able to find things to enjoy through all the low points and play regularly. Right now, ooof.

Before this most recent update, the game was in a decent place.
Now, I just cant bring myself to even want to play it.
It's just not good.

It really was. Player base made some things a bit of a pain, but there really was a ton to do and some fun stuff for casuals and try hards. They had at least gotten them game to the point that you could come in a play for an hour and have something fun to day, even if it was just I want to blow things up for a bit.

Yep. It was my time killer.
They're trying to force you to play it their way now.
And I can't express enough how much I hate the new turn into a ball mechanic.
It is just stupid and terrible.

Portal just feels awful. Grinding the same small quanitty of content over and over and over again, only to lose the power bonus next season. It is a complete 180 from what they said they've wanted to do for the past year, which was give players ways to progress, doing whatever activities they like the most. While, they somewhat made that shift, they did so in a way that drastically limited what you can actually do. It is beyond stupid.
The new raid itself was an absolute disaster. They made it unbelievably bullet sponge hard that required that absolute perfect setups across the board to even come close to completing, while destroying ammo economy making only one build really viable. Meanwhile, the raid was the buggiest piece of crap they've put out in a long time, and then they are livestreaming mocking the players for struggling and passing off their bugs as contest features.

Just want to say I appreciate when a Destiny thread shows up here. I was into D1 (PS3) big time; helped lead a clan, ran raids, taught mechanics to newbies. Good times!
I've tried to get back into D2 since I have a PS5 now but it is not the same. Still play occasionally and thought it might be that I run entirely solo now but most of the comments in this thread resonant. Sad because Destiny was such a great game.

Destiny always felt like World of Warcraft for the CoD dude bros, only the actual adventuring part is like 10 hours long (as opposed to like 50-100), then you're just grinding over and over again.
I can appreciate the music, art direction, and the game feel of a Bungie FPS though.
I played through base Destiny 1 and a couple DLC campaigns. I think with Destiny 2, I played through the base game, but didn't get much further than that.

I put the game down after the first few expansions of d2.
I recommend those like me to pick it back up.
Very fun now.

I’m still playing. I guess I’m a glutton for punishment. I still really enjoy the gameplay. The grind for top level and top tier gear is insane for this expansion and unnecessary as they artificially level cap you anyway.
Lot of bad changes in this update that they’ll have to revert to keep any semblance of a player population.

I'm doing the moon DLC, and I'm like "why is there so much busy work?"
"kill 100 fallen, get 25 kills with a snipe rifle on the moon" to power x artifact.

That’s because the game was originally designed to be a sci-fi dungeon crawler esque game and there are still tons of elements in play. Beat a boss get a chest, farm for better loot. Beat harder dungeons for better loot. The only difference between this and Diablo is the first person aspect and this takes place in space

Ehhh...there are plenty of differences between Destiny and a typical ARPG dungeon crawler.
Destiny has so many conflicting designs elements, it's becoming a game where loot, builds, and power are actually more irrelevant the more you play. There is no feeling of progression.

That is to say, I do remember Destiny having more hand-crafting campaign-style missions. This stuff is just to pad out the length of the LDC and makes no sense within the context of the story.

I played this weekend to get up to level 49 or so from 10. Didn't take too long but I only got to play the opening mission to the new expansion as I don't own it. And I'll tell you, I was already annoyed with the ball mechanic.
With that said, the new armor system would take some getting used to. It looks like they changed it just enough to be able to keep the old stuff useable. The portal isn't that bad. The LFG groups are still toxic at times. I got kicked from a normal strike (power level 10, I was 38 at the time) with grade B rewards. Was stupid. I would have been fine. I don't mind the daily/week rewards that increase your drops for the portal events, but I can't see me trying to get this leveled up to 200 or whatever the soft is.

Getting to 200 isn't too bad. After that, unless you really care about doing high level end game content, its not much to worry about leveling up anymore or griding for it, as the next season we will be back at 200.

Yep. it actually isn't awful once you've beaten the campagin and can do it whenever you want without the nodes and have it fully leveled up. How they forced it into the campaign is awful.

Getting to 200 really isn't a bad grind. It didn't take me that long and can be done pretty passively.
But yea, the new armor system, your old builds can still work and be viable. I used an old one for the whole campaign with no issues. Starting to work on some new ones that is a hybrid of old and new stuff, but i'm not worried anymore about getting the absolute peak stuff.

FYI Greenman gaming EOF DLC+next future DLC $35 Also appears to include previous DLC.
Full disclosure I am one of those who decided the grind wasnt worth it, but figured someone here might be interested for a pretty good deal.
