Well frick me, that was good…

I love how much of a success story this game became. Very much enjoyed my first playthrough, and I’m very much looking forward to replaying post patch/post dlc after my next gpu upgrade.

And it’s crazy that this game, at five years old, is still the best example of “next gen” graphics and fidelity.

I waited all this time and did a full, all-encompassing, 100% playthrough earlier this year. Had a blast

Pre patch 2.0 it really was a mess. Cool story, awesome setting but it felt like and ocean wide and foot deep with everything else. Post 2.0 patch its fantastic. Like a new game as far as gameplay, AI and skill tree progression. Phantom Liberty is even better than the base game imo as far as story. I sunk over 200 hours into it and I'v never done that with any other single player game.

I will say that CD Projekt Red performed an absolute masterclass in how you handle a bad release.

You own up to it.

You fix it.

You follow through on your promises.

You don't blame others, you don't try and mask the issues.

Follow those simple rules and become one of the most beloved game designers in the industry.

Probably a top 3 biggest frick up of all time in gaming at the beginning that they turned into an all time great game

I still think this is a bit overblown, with a caveat. As someone who was gaming on a relatively high end PC at the time, I certainly ran into bugs and some systems, like driving and law enforcement response, that were barely half baked, but the core of the game wasn't bad. Certainly wasn't great, but it was somewhere just north of mediocre.

The caveat: the game should have never, ever been released on last gen consoles. Doing so was fricking insane and, in my opinion, drives a solid majority of the narrative regarding how "bad" CP2077 was on release.

Was free on PS +, gave it a go. Wasn't digging it at first, didn't understand everything. Once I figured it out...hooked.

Played it once at launch, the worst way possible (base PS4).

Game was technically a mess but still playable after the first few patches.

You could definitely see the potential for greatness all over theplace, but the world was remarkably barren of interesting things to see and do outside the storyline quest.

Half baked gameplay systems, cut content, lack of depth to the world, no interesting side activities, etc.

It was clear they released a game still years a way from being "ready"

Not really in the mood to ever revisit it but it doesn't surprise me it's in a much better state now.

Got maybe an hour in it. Felt very boring, plus idgaf about cyberpunk type settings. When the expansion comes to ps+ i'll probably actually play it.

Didn’t play it at launch for obvious reasons. I waited until about a year or two ago to finally try it, and it was absolutely phenomenal.

On my first two playthroughs, I quit a little over an hour or so in. I would always fall off at the same point. Where you are having to spy on the guy and listen and all that stuff.

This time I pushed a little farther and the game just started popping off.

After that, I was more immersed than I ever was in The Witcher 3, Red Dead, GTA, whatever. Maybe even more than Elden Ring. No…definitely more than Elden Ring.

I wanted to do everything. All of it. Anything to trigger the soundtrack and a gun fight.

The story was top tier. Had I just played a little longer on my first two attempts I would have figured that out a lot earlier. There was this moment that the plot just kind of puts the pedal to the metal and never let off for me.

It helped that the world felt so alive and that the sidequest were quality. It all felt connected. It truly made the city feel alive.

Really felt like I was living in another reality. Kind of scares me now that I think about it.

I put 120 hours into it a couple years ago. 100%'d the main game and the DLC. I enjoyed it but it didnt really "stick" with me like a game of that magnitude should. Like i can barely remember the story line and the missions after spending a ton of time on it. Maybe i'm just not as into the cyberpunk setting as most. I thought the DLC was the best part and Idris Elba being in it was really cool.

I enjoyed it but its not a game i'd do a 2nd playthrough of. Definitely recommend pacing yourself on the police scanner mini missions. I decided to knock out every single one at once and it almost made me quit. There's gotta be over 100.

It’s not unlike TW3 in that you can utterly ruin the game’s pacing if you spend too much time focusing on the basic filler content.

I will say that, unlike some games, you can do as little or as much of the side missions as you like. Many games make it where if you don't do all (or at least most) of the side missions, you're underpowered.

I'd tell people do the things fun to them, but the game does have one benefit in that there's basically 4 tiers of quests, IMHO:

1. Main Story
2. Important NPC Quests (like the Judy and Panam quests after your done with their part of the main story, or Claire's racing quest)
3. Fun Open World quests (like Skippy, the jacked BD, the shooting competition, etc)
4. Murder hobo open world quests (mostly the ones that come from your fixers, or NCPD alerts)

The most immersive/least grinding is probably to do the first two, and leave yourself open for the third. The fixer quests are not important; honestly they're just good for leveling and loot.

One nice thing I'll add about the game is that there is SO MUCH amazing voice acting, that regardless if you choose male or female V you're going to get a great performance. I think each is better at specific moments but you're not going to go wrong with either.

The only voice acting I didn't care for initially was Lizzy Wizzy (voiced by Claire Boucher aka Grimes) because they wanted someone who could sing, and she had never voice acted before. That said, by the time she shows up in the DLC you can really tell that the actress learned from that initial experience and her performance during the DLC is one of those "here's another thing I didn't expect" moments that really, really works.

I would argue that the unrelated open world quests (#3) are more important to the experience than you’re saying (Sinnerman, anyone…), but I mostly agree. I just try to emphasize that #4 is there to give you something to do while traveling between points, not something people should be trying to clear mid game.
