I'm telling you. Monoco is a cheat code. It's worth taking the time to run around and pick up enemy skills for him.
He doesn't always do the most damage, but if you use his stances correctly he can absolutely control nearly every fight. There is one attack with him that will fill 20% of an enemy's break meter as long as you're in agile stance. I use him as a damage dealing support character. This is how I use him in every stance:
caster: full party regen that also heals if in caster stance - there are probably better caster skills but I got this early and love this heal
heavy:
2 options:
-single enemy attack that can break and deals extra damage in heavy stance
-AOE attack that buffs the party with powerful if in heavy stance
balanced:
-just some random attack so this isn't a wasted wheel space
agile:
2 options:
-attack that ignores shields and does increased damage based on the number of shields (absolutely murders shielded mobs),
OR
-single target attack that fills 20% break meter if in agile (doesn't do great damage, but this fills the break meter better than most other attacks I've seen from any character)
I always use the agile break attack when in agile stance or mastery stance against bosses. I'm breaking bosses 2-3 times each fight.

It's the "turn based is boring crowd" who are loving this game.

I’m pretty far behind you guys. Just left Flying Waters and did the platformer at the beach. Bout broke my frickin controller, I kept mis-timing the very last jump

Wow. You actually completed it? I gave up about...10 minutes in.

All you get is a frickin swimsuit outfit lol

I actually didn’t find it to be bad once I got going. Took me a few tries.
The volleyball one is horrendously hard.

I just wanted to keep moving with the story so was like "screw this." This game is just not a platformer and this minigame made that obvious.
I'm sure I'll probably end up knocking this out.

Makes it seem hardly worth it unless you just want to get every single outfit. I'll try to convince myself I don't want that.

If that's the expedition that leaves a week after everyone else and just picks up the stuff they left behind without having to fight anything, that sounds like my kind of crew.

Haha Something like that yeah.

I’m probably mid act 2 and the gestral beach with you climbing up in the air has made me not want to do another one of those nonsense games. I have gotten to near the top 10 times only to either have my character not jump when I push the button, and fall to the bottom, or him to not grab hold like he should because it has to be a pixel perfect jump. The platforming is horrible. Thankfully so far it’s really been nothing but cosmetics so it’s not a big deal but it’s ridiculous.

I've now completed the gestral beaches that have the climbing challenge with beams of light firing at you, and the race course so...I guess I have to finish them all...

I’m proud of you. Must truly be game of the year material.

I think it's going to be a contender, no doubt.

Pulled a 3am session tonight. Game is hard to put down. Just got to the Lampmaster and his 2nd form got me on my first try but it was close. Calling it quits for the night will try again tomorrow
I just realized I missed the Troubador optional boss in rising waters so will have to back track when I can

Got here last night. I got the strongest sakapatate down to 1hp on my first try and thought "that wasnt so bad," only to have him smoke me 5 or 6 times in a row. No-hit his arse after though

Made it through the prologue and picked up the first party member. Art and music is phenomenal. Combat is a nice twist on turn-based. I'm focusing on exclusively parrying. I don't care how much I die in the process.

I knew absolutely nothing about this game until my son called and told me about it. I was intrigued and signed up for GamePass to try it out. I wound up buying it on PS5 to support the devs and because this game is made to play on a big screen.
I haven't read through this thread because I want to stay as blind as possible, but I can say for anyone who enjoys jRPGs and wants an interesting story set in a beautiful (but eerie) world... stop what you're doing and buy this game ASAP!
This is what I had hoped Final Fantasy 16 would be.

I’ve put Lune on the bench since I’ve had Sciel. She puts out some serious damage once you get the hang of how Foretell works. Especially in the rocky area where the Nevrond are weak to dark. Plus her attacks just look badass with that scythe lol
Just finished act 1. Holy shite.
